Sam’s cousin Maddox has arrived!

| June 27, 2009

On June 26, 2009 at 8:55 a.m. Maddox Ray Burke arrived in the world and he is absolutely adorable!  Congratulations Krista and Adam on a beautiful baby boy!  Sam is going to love playing with her cousin and I sincerely hope they are the best of friends.  Seeing all of you last night and how incredibly happy you were makes me wish that I could see Sam right now : )  But I know she will be here before I know it, so I am content to wait until it is her time.  Both of our babies are so lucky to be welcomed into such loving families who want them so much.  We are all truly blessed.  We love you, Maddox!

Time is sailing by….

| June 25, 2009

I can’t believe how time is going by so quickly. Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and think, “what the heck happened to me?”  I feel like it’s been just a few weeks since we found out about our little miracle but tomorrow I will be 27 weeks!  When my weeks start beginning with a “3” I think that’s when I will really start freaking out.

My last appointment with Dr. Bailey was a week ago. I haven’t posted much about my appointments lately since, frankly, they’ve been fairly unremarkable.  Everything is going well, and Sam is great, so there hasn’t been a lot to say. I haven’t had an ultrasound since 20 weeks, but I do have one next week! I’m very excited to see how much Sam has changed in 2 months time. I bet it will be unbelievable.  I remember once we had an ultrasound and 2 weeks later had another one, and boy was it different.  Now it should really be a change.

At my last (and every) appointment, we do get to hear her heartbeat, which is always a reassuring sound.  She kicks a lot when the Doppler is on my stomach, and Dr. Bailey always comments that they are good strong kicks. I guess she doesn’t like him pushing around on her home ; )  He said she is probably about 2 or 2.2 pounds now.  So tiny it seems, but right on schedule.  I will find out a lot more I am sure next week.

We picked up our crib the other night (which is still unassembled on the nursery floor), but plan to try to get it put together this week, so I’ll be posting photos soon!

Father’s Day 2009

| June 21, 2009

ella_gershwinToday was a very special father’s day for me. The prospect of Sam being born in only a few short months is tremendously exciting. I was blessed to have wonderful grandfathers and the best father a son could ever have. Through their teaching and examples I feel that I am as well prepared as I could ever be to finally be a father myself and I can’t wait to get started!

Pam made the day special as well for me. She got me a very special gift that I have been looking for unsuccessfully for some time. I’ve mentioned before that our favorite recordings are the Ella Fitzgerald songbooks. We bought them on CD years ago but I always wanted them on vinyl. Recently we have been buying individual records that were re-isussed by an audiophile label  a few years ago. We were able to get mot of them but were not able to find our favorite one anywhere. It is Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Gershwin Songbooks and is a large vinyl record set with some of the best versions of Gershwin tunes ever recorded. The songs were arranged by Nelson Riddle who is my favorite arranger and the recordings are simply fantastic. The vinyl box set of Ella singing the Gershwin songbooks is very rare but Pam tracked down a new one and bought it for me! It is a beautiful set of wonderful music, six albums in all. Thanks hon, I will treasure it! We already listened to most of the records this weekend.

Our little soccer player

Last night I was standing in the kitchen making myself my bedtime snack and Sam kicked me REALLY hard.  I mean REALLY hard. So hard that I actually physically jumped backward a few inches from the shock.  WOW.  I feel her move all the time now, much more than I used to, most likely because she’s getting bigger, but last night was the first time it actually hurt.  Well…I guess people warned me.  If she keeps that up, I am going to be black and blue!  Now if I could just figure out which of my necessary major organs offended her so greatly….. : )
