She is in labor now! 8:21pm

| September 22, 2009

Well, we thought we were done for the day but it looks like Sam had other plans. Pam wasn’t dilating on the Pitocin so around 4:00pm the disconnected everything to give her a break. She walked around for a bit, had a soda, and then started having contractions that were more severe than when on the Pitocin. They quick hooked her back up and sure enough, she was having contractions. Contractions are only about 2 minutes apart now and she just got an epidural. Sam is on the way!

Not too much progress 1:05pm

She just had another exam and the doctor said there is not much progress. They are going to continue the Pitocin for another hour and if there is no change, they are going to stop it and give her a break until later tonight. So, it’s looking like we might not seem Sam until tomorrow.

Short update 12:04am

Pam has been on the Pitocin since around 9:30 this morning. She is having contractions now pretty regularly but they are small. She can feel them but they are not too painful. Her spirits have improved and she has relaxed a good bit since this morning. The nurse was teasing us because we were watching Sesame Street. Supergrover was on though and he is our favorite Sesame Street character so we had to watch him 🙂

I think she has reconsidered her position on trying to deliver naturally without an epidural. There was a woman in the room next to us having a natural child birth. She was screaming at the top of her lungs like a banshee for several hours. It sounded like a medieval torture chamber over there! After hearing that, I think Pam will take the epidural when it is time.
