Sam has had a busy few days. On Tuesday, October 6, Mark and I decided to see how things would go leaving Sam for a bit with Grandmom Joan. We planned on going to the movies and dinner, so we dropped Sam off at about 11:30 to visit with Grandmom and Poppy. We did go to the movies (although not the double feature we planned on since it seemed too long to leave our little girl) and went to dinner too. We made it back to my mom’s house about an hour or so earlier than we planned. As much as we were looking forward to going out on our own, it was so hard leaving her! And it was really weird being in the car together without her in the back seat. I kept sort of looking for Sam the whole time. All in all it went really well. My mom had a blast taking care of her (big surprise there) and I do think it was good for Mark and I to get out, even for a few hours, on our own.
Today we took Sam to Carrabbas so we could eat some dinner. Again, Sam was an angel and slept the whole time. After we were done we strolled through Springfield Mall and visited the brand new Target that just opened there. Sam slept there too most of the time, although her eyes popped open once or twice to see one of her mommy’s favorite stores. I told her we’d probably be spending a lot of time there so she better get used to it!

Well, not really…she will always be linked to her mommy, but in one sense she did lose a significant link. Today her umbilical cord fell off — Sam now has an official belly button!

Last night Mark and I decided to be brave and see how well Sam would do at a restaurant. She did great! We tried to think of a place that we could go that was roomy enough for us to handle her carseat and close enough to home that if she started having a fit, we could get home fast. We settled on Casa Prego in Aston, a little Italian place we both like a lot. We went really early so that the restaurant wouldn’t be too crowded and we are pleased to say it went wonderfully! Sam slept the entire time we were there. After dinner we stopped at Michael’s to buy some frames for some of Sam’s photos. She slept right through that shopping trip too.
I can’t believe how lucky we are to have her. I am constantly amazed at how beautiful and perfect she is. I just can’t stop looking at her. When I hold her she snuggles right in. It is so hard to let her go. I never want to forget how she looks right now, when she is so little, because I know she will grow up so fast. But I am looking forward to every minute of our life with her. I just hope it doesn’t slip by so quickly that I can’t appreciate it for the miracle that it is.

Sam has recently had the pleasure of meeting some additional members of her family. Her Aunt Maria came to visit her on Tuesday, September 29. Maria made quite a fuss over our little girl (but of course! she is adorable!) and told us how excited her daughter, Sam’s cousin Analiece, will be to meet her. We all decided that waiting a few weeks for that would be appropriate since Analiece just started school and the germs are likely flying!
Sam’s Aunt Krista was planning on coming over on Thursday, October 1 so that Sam could meet her cousin, Maddox. Mark wanted to take a bunch of pictures of them together so he set up a little photo area with a makeshift backdrop. Well….Muffin knew that Mark needed a model to make sure the lighting was just right, so he jumped right in to help out : )
When Krista and Maddox arrived, I have to say, the two cousins were not all that interested in each other! They were pretty much oblivious to the other baby in the room besides themselves. They looked soooo cute together though. It is hard to believe that Maddox was once smaller than Sam — at 3 months old now, he has grown so much!
Here is a photo of the two proud new moms. I still am just in awe that not that long ago, neither Krista nor I thought we would ever get what we wanted, and now look how lucky we are! Sam wasn’t too happy about the chill in the air, hence the face. She is usually a very good natured baby.
And finally, a just beautiful shot of Maddox. He is such a gorgeous baby — good looks run in the family!
