On Monday, November 9, I took Sam in to my office to visit with everyone. It was Sam’s first visit into the big city! My mom came with me, and we drove into Philly then pushed Sam the couple of blocks to my office in her stroller. As a side note, God help anyone with kids who lives downtown — the sidewalks are so horrible! Her stroller was bouncing all over the place. I should have brought the jogging stroller instead of her regular one — at least that one has shock absorbers and inflatable rubber tires!
Anyway, I had a lot of fun showing her off and I think Sam had fun too. She was actually really awake most of the time she was there and was all smiley and alert a lot of the time. Everyone admired her adorableness (of course!) and Sue even fed her for me. I think Sue had a blast, personally. Come on Sue, don’t you want another one ; )
My mom took a picture for me of Sam with me in my cube. When I tried to take another pic with Sam’s hands on my keyboard, boy did she start to yell! I guess having a job, or at least one in a law firm, is NOT something Samantha sees in her future.
The whole day totally wore her out. She slept in the car for the 45 minute ride home. When I got her back to my mom’s house at about 2:30, she ate, then promptly went back to sleep and slept until she ate again at 6:00, then went to bed until almost 2:00 this morning! I had a really good time with her, and it was so good seeing all my friends again, but I gotta say….I don’t miss work. Not when I can stay home with this cutie pie all day. I keep thinking January (and work) will be here before I know it….I try not to think about it too much.
On another note, at the end of the day, she was laying on me belly down and I was just talking to her. She is really good at lifting her head and turning it side to side — she has been for a while now. But she still can’t really push her body up at all if she is laying on her tummy. Last night for the first time I saw her lift her upper body up for just a few seconds on her arms! Very exciting moment for my girl : ) I keep laying her on her play mat on her belly so that she gets more practice. Pretty soon she’ll be holding herself up like a pro!

Mornings are when Sam is usually alert and chipper. Every weekend we have been spending the morning listening to music and singing together. Today after our little jam session we took advantage of some nice window light to take a few photos, here is one that I particularly like.

Just the other day, I was sitting on the couch with Sam just relaxing in the morning. Muffin came over to sit with us, which has become a habit of his. I thought it was so cute when Sam reached out and touched him. At first I thought he was going to leave, but then he just picked up his head to see who was touching him and then put it back down again when he saw it was Samantha. The cats have been so good to her — I really anticipated a lot of hissing, growling, and running away when we brought her home from the hospital, but that never happened at all, not once. Here are some pictures that Mark managed to snap before either one of them moved.
This last picture isn’t with Muffin, but I just thought Samantha had a cute look on her face. She is laying on her play gym which she is finally starting to enjoy. She hasn’t quite gotten the hang of actually grabbing or touching anything that is hanging above her head, but she does like to look at everything now, and she pays attention to the bee which plays music and she smiles at the things hanging above her sometimes. She loves her mobiles now too, and is always looking out the window when you hold her. It is amazing how aware she is now of the things around her.

Pam was outside today and saw the mail lady carrying over a huge box. We couldn’t imagine what was in it since we hadn’t ordered anything recently. We brought it inside and saw that it was for Sam. My cousins in Monaca, PA (out by Pittsburgh) sent Sam a whole store worth of super nice clothes plus other goodies like a scrapbook, bibs, and socks! Check out the photo below, there must be over 20 different outfits of various sizes up through 18 months! Sam was elated and couldn’t wait to try on one of the outfits. Here she is sitting on her big pile of new clothes.
Thanks so much Mary, Jim, Heather, Missy, Stacey, and Sharon! We hope you can see her sometime soon. Pam and I are talking about trying to come out this summer to see everyone.
