Back to work

| January 13, 2010

Well, yesterday was my first day back to work, and both Sam and I survived 🙂 I think Sam survived it better than I did, however.  Monday night was the worst.  All I kept thinking about was how much I was going to miss her.  I cried, of course, and cried again on Tuesday morning when I dropped her off at my mom’s.  Sam seemed unfazed, however, which is not surprising.  It was so hard seeing her little smiling face in the morning and then leaving her.  She was so cute though.  Usually she wakes up at about 7:15 or 7:30 in the morning, and I had to wake her up at around 6:45 so we could get going.  She was so sleepy!  She looked at me like I was crazy for dragging her out of her crib when it was dark outside and after all, I have been telling her since she was born, “It’s dark outside, nighttime’s for sleeping” whenever she didn’t want to go  back to sleep after a middle of the night bottle.

My mom had so much fun with her.  She told me that Sam ate well, took lots of naps (why she naps better at my mom’s than at my house, I have no idea), and they read books and played.  I am so lucky that my mom can watch Sam.  It eases my mind so much knowing that she is with someone I trust completely who will pay attention to her all day long and who loves her like I do.

Mark worked from home yesterday so he picked her up.  When I got home, Sam and Mark were sitting on the couch hanging out.  She looked very happy, but sleepy.  That is one of the worst parts.  By the time I get her at night, her day is winding down and she is too tired to interact with me much (Sam’s bedtime is 7:00).  But I just keep focusing on the fact that on Mondays and Fridays, and all weekend, I get to be with her.  Working 3 days a week is so great, I am lucky my job is flexible and that my employer likes me enough to want to keep me around, even if it is only part time!

Today hopefully will be better than yesterday.  Sam was sleepy but still managed to smile for us this morning.  She is such a happy little bunny.  I even managed to get to work a little earlier than I did yesterday (there were no tears at my mom’s today…) so I can go and pick her up.  I can’t wait!

Rolling over

| January 10, 2010

A little while back I posted that Mark and I saw Sam roll over from her back to her belly — well, we have her on her playmat while we are running around straightening up and I came into the room and she was on her belly.  NOT how I left her….. I asked Mark if he flipped her that way since we had just been giving her tummy time, and he said no.  So we flipped her back to her back again, and lo and behold, a few minutes later…on her tummy again!  So we flipped her back onto her back one last time to see if we could catch her and she did it again right in front of us!  I guess we are really going to have to keep an eye on our little roly poly bunny so she doesn’t get away from us!

Sam and the mobiles

| January 10, 2010

I always thought mobiles were more for decoration than anything. They look cute and all but I never really expected that a baby could be totally enamored by one. Well, I was wrong, Sam has a mobile in both her crib and pack and play and finds them both fascinating and hysterical. Every time we put her down under a mobile she looks at it and then gives us the cutest smile as to say “please make the mobile spin!” We usually oblige, she is just so cute. She stares at the mobiles while they are spinning, smiling and babbling along the whole time.

Here she is watching the mobile in her crib yesterday:

Baby Giggles

| January 4, 2010

Sam started laughing today!  The cutest sound I think I have ever heard!  My mom was over today because we were going to do some shopping and she was keeping Sam occupied while I got dressed.  Sam was lying on my bed and my mom was talking to her and playing with her.  My mom started pulling Sam’s legs up and putting Sam’s feet on her (Sam’s) cheeks and apparantly that was hysterical! I was pulling on my clothes and I heard her giggling away and couldn’t believe it. Mark and I knew it was coming soon and were just waiting for it.  I tried it again myself later in the day when she was on the changing table and she started cracking up again.  I tried not to wear her out because I wanted Mark to hear it when he got home, and while I was cleaning up from dinner, Mark pulled her into a little pretzel with her feet on her cheeks and she started giggling again.  I hope we can make her laugh all the time.  It is the sweetest, most adorable sound.  I just wonder what she will do to dazzle us next!

Tummy time!

| January 2, 2010

Here are some more pictures of Samantha that I took recently.  She has gotten so good at doing tumy time and really lifting her head up high that we thought she looked really cute.  It’s such a classic baby pose.  If you click on the picture, you will be taken to another page with a lot more photos.  Once you are on the new page, you will see an index of prints.  You can click each print to see a larger photo and then return to the blog by clicking the link at the top of the photo page.  Enjoy!
