Adventures in solid food

Or what passes for “solid” in the baby universe. It’s really more mush. Today, for the very first time, Samantha got to eat something other than formula from her bottle. She had rice cereal! It went pretty well, all things considered. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to eat for the first time when you are a baby.
We strapped Sam into her new highchair, which we just got a few days ago. I think she looks super cute all ready to go. She actually looked really excited at first, especially when I put her bib on, which to Sam is always a sign of good things to come.
Sam was NOT too thrilled with the concept of a spoon in her mouth. This is what she generally looked like with each spoonful. You can just see her thinking, “Ewww…this is gross!” Despite what it looks like, she wasn’t crying, just making faces!
A lot of it came out in the first few spoons, but she got a lot better at keeping it in her mouth. After she sort of learned to keep the cereal in her mouth, she adjusted pretty well, and seemed happy.
She ate a decent amount for her first time. Tomorrow we will try again. We are going to give her cereal twice a day so hopefully she will get used to it soon so she can move on to more tasty things like jarred fruits and veggies.
After her meal, she looked happy, don’t you think? But she was still happiest about getting her bottle, which she had a few minutes later. I am proud of my little munchkin. Go Samantha!
