Trying to crawl — post #200!

| May 31, 2010

I can’t believe this is the 200th post on Sam’s blog.  Actually, I guess I can believe it. We have so much fun with our little girl, and are in such awe of her and everything she does, and how she grows, that we can’ t help but memorialize everything.  So, on that note, this morning, Mark took some pictures of Sam in her room where we were letting her practice crawling.  We think she just looked so cute trying so very hard.

Ready, and…..GO!

Ok, so she didn’t go.  But I love this one.  Sam got distracted by Zephyr walking into the room. You can just see her little furry face on the right side of the frame.  You can tell from Sam’s face that she sees her kitty cat and is so excited!

Ok, one more time.  Here she goes!  She’ s trying…

Concentrating very, very hard…

She isn’t moving yet, but she finds this whole process very funny!

One last time…

Awww…forget it.  I’m taking a break to play with my giraffe.  (This happens a lot.  We put her into crawl position, and she immediately says, no way! and sits down.)

So much for that.  On to yoga stretches. Trying to crawl is hard work!

Happy Memorial Day!

| May 31, 2010

This weekend, as the unofficial start to summer, the pool opened!  We had so much fun there last year that we were really looking forward to taking Sam.  We hoped she’d actually like the pool, and not (a) be scared by all the other kids, (b) be upset by the temperature of the water, or (c) just hate it for no reason other than she is a baby and she can do what she wants.  I am happy to report that she loved it!

Here she is all suited up in her lounge chair waiting for the pool boy to get her a drink with an umbrella in it. 🙂  She doesn’t look too thrilled, that is for sure, but I think she was just in awe of the whole place.  Her head never stopped swiveling the whole time.  She has an actual girly bathing suit, but for her first time, since we didn’t know how cold the water would be or how hot the sun would be, we put her in her swim shirt.  Bikini photos to come later (not until she’s 35 if her daddy has anything to say about it)!

We took her into the baby pool and Mark sort of dipped her feet in to see how she’d do.  As he held her, he kept dipping her deeper and deeper while I splashed water on her.  As each part got wet, she’d make this cute little “ooooh” kind of sound.  Eventually though, she got all wet.  For a while she just sat on Mark’s leg.  See, she is all smiles!  Everyone loved her little sunglasses.  She is really good about keeping them on.

We then realized that there is a “deep” end in the baby pool (if you can call a foot and a half “deep”), so we took her down to the shallow end where she could actually stand up.  Foolishly, we didn’t bring any toys with us.  Well, she spied this rubber ducky on the edge of the pool and pretty much stole away with it.  No one claimed it though, which was good since it gave her something to do.  We promised her we’d go buy her some fun pool toys.

I think this picture is cute because you can actually see her little feet standing on the bottom of the pool.

After a little while, she was really having fun.  She started splashing the water hard with her hands and having a good time making everyone wet, including herself.  She really doesn’t mind getting her face wet, which surprised me.  I thought it might upset her, but she is such a good baby, nothing seems to bother her.  If you look on the left by her hand, you can see the water splashing up.  Here’s one last shot of her having a good time.

Tyler Arboretum

| May 30, 2010

Yesterday we broke in our new backpack carrier with a short hike in Tyler Arboretum. I’ve been going there ever since I can remember and it has some special significance for Pam and me. It was one of the first outdoorsy type of places I ever took her and in fact, I think the first photo session we ever did of each other was at Tyler.

Sam did really well in her backpack. She fell asleep in the car on the way over and was still sleepy when we got there but she enjoyed the walk nonetheless. We walked through the the main part where most of the people stay and out through the deer gate.  Just beyond the gate there is a beautiful meadow that we have been visiting for years and I couldn’t wait to share it with Sam:

Don’t we look like a couple of happy hikers? That bench in the background is my favorite in the whole park, we always rest there whenever we hike at Tyler.

As you can see, it is a really big bench 🙂

I think it would be cool to photograph her on that same bench over the years, maybe even through the seasons. I think I’m going to do that.

She really had a good time sitting in the grass, grazing away, $150 a month on formula and baby food when we could just be feeding this kid grass 🙂

What a little cutie:

Thanks honey for a really nice day in the park!

Ready to move!

| May 29, 2010

Sam is really getting ready to move! She has been working so hard on learning to crawl, and we have been trying to help her as much as we can by putting her on her belly and placing some of her favorite things just out of her reach.  Here are some pictures of her getting ready to go!

The first one is my favorite because she is making fish lips, which she just learned to do. I think it’s adorable.

In this last one, she had just sort of sat herself down.  Yesterday was the first day I actually saw her go from laying down to a sitting position on her own.  It makes things interesting, that’s for sure.  She never wants to nap now!  I used to lay her down and she’d eventually just go to sleep because what else was she going to do?  But now she just sits herself right up in her crib and says, forget this, I’m going to play!  Here she isn’t in her crib, she’s just on the floor, but she sat herself up to relax from all her practice crawling.  We like this pic because she just looks so classic (and very happy with herself)!

Our silly Sam

| May 29, 2010

Every time Sam realizes she can make a new sound, she sticks to it like glue until she finds  a new one.  Well, lately, she has latched on to this weird sound and facial expression that Mark and I call “Darth Sam”.  She twists her mouth into a line and breathes really heavy. It is so funny, I can’t even describe it. She was playing with her toy and was concentrating so hard on it, that Darth Sam came out. I think Mark really captured her expression well in these photos.

Every day with her is so fun.  She can be so funny, I am just glad that sometimes Mark is able to capture it for someone else to enjoy.
