More bathtime fun

| May 29, 2010

I really can’t get over how much fun Samantha has in the bath now.  After SO MANY months of her hating every second of her baths, I swear, she could stay in the water forever.  We are really glad about that because we were a little worried she wouldn’t like the pool this year.  We joined last year when I was pregnant, and absolutely loved it, and were looking forward to taking little Sam this year to go wading in the baby pool.

She really loves being in the water now.  I showed her how to smack the water yesterday in her bath and boy was that a mistake.  She is at that age where she mimics things you do, and she started smacking the water a little more violently than I was.  There was a lot of water everywhere, that’s for sure….

I am still bathing her most of the time in the sink since I haven’t quite figured out the best way to deal with rinsing her hair in the tub.  She has a lot of hair, and a lot of shampoo has to come out, so using the sprayer in the sink is helpful.

Here are a few pictures from her last bath.  She likes to play with her ducks, and apparantly decided to use one as a pacifier (strangely, since she hasn’t used a paci in about 4 months!)

I can’t get enough of her eyes

| May 26, 2010

Pam went to bed early tonight, looks like she caught that euro-bug Sam and I got last week. When she does that, I often use the time to review my recent photos in Lightroom to look for good photos I may have missed the first time  around. I quite like this one, her eyes are so big and razor sharp. This is just lit with daylight from our bay window with a fast lens almost wide open to throw the kitchen out of focus.

Sam in the great outdoors

| May 25, 2010

I have always enjoyed hiking and being in the outdoors. I got that from my father for sure. I want to instill the same love for the outdoors in little Sam so am starting her out really early! As long as the temperature is between 50 and 80 degrees and it is not raining, I take her for a 2 mile walk each night in her Bob stroller:

She finds it really comfortable as you can see and normally ends up like this by the time I get a few blocks away from home:

She really seems to like being outside after the long crazy winter. I want to take her out hiking but even with the off-road capable Bob, it is still not suitable for hiking in a lot of our favorite spots. Pennsylvania has some beautiful places to hike but most of them are hilly and rocky. So, we are going to try this out:

We tried her in it today and she seemed really happy. We walked about a mile around the neighborhood and Pam said she was smiling and looking all around the whole way. I think this weekend we are going to take her out somewhere for a longer hike. Here’s one more photo, check out cute little leg sticking out:

You know we are going to have to try putting Zephyr in this thing one of these days 🙂

Look out for that lip!

| May 25, 2010

It’s funny, the most emotive part of Sam’s face is her bottom lip. She makes all kinds of funny faces with it. You can always tell when she is about to cry because she sticks that lip way out there. It’s tough to photograph because the moment is so fleeting but I got lucky the other day:

She is just so cute. She makes 100 different faces and we love every one of them!

8 months old today

| May 23, 2010

Little Samantha is 8 months old today!  She is not so little anymore, though.  Truthfully, she is getting so big I can’t believe it.  Yesterday, we took Sam out into Media to have lunch and walk up and down State Street to do some window shopping.  We used her Bob stroller which we usually do when walking on sidewalks since it’s so much of a smoother ride. It wasn’t that long ago that we removed the bar that was necessary to mount her car seat in the stroller so that she could just sit in the stroller seat.  We had posted some pics of her in it, I think.  At the time, we said she looked so small because her little legs were so short that they stuck out straight; she couldn’t bend them where the seat ends.  On Saturday, we were pushing her around and I noticed her legs were bent at the knees and hanging over the edge of the seat.  She has grown so much in only about a month that she can fully sit now in the stroller.  It is so crazy.

Also, this weekend we took the car seat bases out of our cars and put in the new convertible car seats we bought.  Sam now has a “big girl” seat, as we told her.  She is still rear facing, as she has to be until she’s a year old, but she looks so much more comfy in the seat. It has so much room!  She really seemed to like it.  We tried her out in it just sitting in our family room in the seat and she was just totally chilling out like she was in a lounge chair!

She is really getting ready to crawl now.  She spends a tremendous amount of time on her hands and knees but she can’t quite get the concept of moving yet. The funniest thing today was that she was trying so hard to crawl, and she managed to move about an inch or two…but she went backwards.  Oh well. At least it’s movement!

Her new thing too is that she likes to practice walking. If you hold her up lightly under her arms, just enough that she doesn’t fall, she will actually move one foot after the other and “walk” towards you.  If she was strong enough to hold her balance on her feet, I swear she’d be walking and not crawling.  Today she was on my lap and she turned onto her belly, which she ALWAYS does now (she is such a wiggle worm).  Her belly was on my legs.  She wanted so badly to get to the Target ad next to me (smart girl!) that by wiggling, and moving from her knees to her feet, she managed to work her way across my body so that she reached the ad and her legs, and not her belly, were across my legs.  She wants to move so badly that I am sure she will master it soon.

Our poor bunny has a bit of a cold right now (she is coughing a lot, and sneezing), but she was a happy little baby all weekend.  She took her naps and smiled and giggled like crazy.  That’s our girl, the happiest baby I have ever seen.

Happy 8 month birthday, Samantha!  We love you! And we can’t wait to see what you do next!
