Happy Father’s Day, Mark

| June 20, 2010

Today is Mark’s first official Father’s Day.  I could just tell from his beaming face this morning that he felt like the luckiest man alive today.  Sam and I decided to let Mark sleep in.  Zephyr on the other hand, came barreling into the bedroom bright and early and meowing up a storm.  Thankfully, I don’t think she woke him up.

After he ate breakfast, we decided to open presents so that Samantha could go down for her nap.  She needed to be rested since we planned on spending the afternoon at the pool!  Here is the proud daddy and his little girl.

She was very helpful in opening gifts.  She is great at tearing paper.  It is actually one of her new favorite things to do.  Magazines, tissues, any kind of paper, she loves to tear it apart.  This gift was a grill pan for grilling veggies and such on our gas grill.

On to gift #2!  Mark said to me a long time ago that he didn’t want me to get rid of her pacifiers and some of her other things like her links that she plays with because he wanted to try to figure out how to keep something of hers forever.  I started doing some research a few months ago and found a place that will bronze pretty much anything, not just baby shoes.  And sure enough they will bronze a pacifier!  Not only that, but they do numerous finishes so I got him nickel since we both like the silver appearance more than the gold or bronze.  He was pretty surprised I think, but very pleased with his gift.  Sam wasn’t too sure about it, however.  Even though she gave up her binkys at about 4-1/2 months of age, she likes her stuff and didn’t like the idea of giving up anything to anyone.  When I explained it was for her daddy she said it was ok though.

As you can see, even though she hasn’t used her binky in a very long time, she hasn’t forgotten how to use one!  Right in her mouth it went.

Zephyr got Mark a very nice book that shows cats and babies in the same poses.  It is really cute.  Here’s Mark with his two babies.  Sam is very kindly offering to share her teething beads with Zepher, who does not seem interested, I must say.

And here they all are, with Mark forcing Sam and Zephyr to share the love. 🙂

Here’s the last gift.  A really nice, handmade leather photo album for him to put his multitudes of Samantha pictures in.

After this, we went to the pool, then out for a nice dinner.  I thought it would be cruel and unusual punishment for Mark to have to eat my cooking.

I hope you had a wonderful first Father’s Day, Mark.  I love you so much.  We waited for so long to have our little girl, and I many, many times thought it would never happen.  But look what we did.  We created the most stunning, amazing, beautiful girl that anyone could ever hope for.  She was worth every second of waiting for her, and I know you agree.

I hope you know that you are an amazing father. Sam will always know she is loved, and she will never doubt that you think she is smart, inventive, funny, beautiful, and unique.  Having a father’s uncompromising love and affection is one of the most incredible gifts a daughter could ask for.  Sam is truly a lucky girl.  And I am very lucky to share this journey with you.  I can’t imagine a better father for my child or a better husband for myself.  Happy Father’s Day. We love you.

Maddox’s First Birthday Party

| June 19, 2010

Today we all attended Maddox’s first birthday party.  It was a really nice day and we all had a great time.  Here are some pictures of the kiddos having fun.

We tried to get Sam and Maddox to hang out together for a nice picture, but it is next to impossible to get them to sit in the same place, much less to look at the camera!  They look awfullly cute though.

Since the day was so hot (90 degrees), Krista and Adam set up a pool for the little ones.  We were all ready to jump in!

This is one of Sam’s new bathing suits.  I think she looks so sweet.  Doesn’t she look right at home in the water?  She loved that orange fish…hmmm…she has a penchant for orange….I wonder why?

Maddox had enough of the pool after a while and took off after the sprinkler.  He can really move when he wants to!  It is so cute to watch him crawling around.  He goes so fast, and it is so unlike Sam at this point, since she crawls so slowly.  I can’t imagine when she is taking off like Maddox is.

I love this face.  It reminds me of Sam.  They are cousins after all!

Here’s the incredibly happy family waiting for Maddox to enjoy his birthday cupcake.

Happy birthday, Maddox!  We had a great time at your party, and we feel so very lucky to have you in our family.  We love you, little guy!

Cheeri-oatie-o’s!

| June 14, 2010

We have some very exciting news!  As I may have mentioned before, Sam has been moving along really slowly with her solid foods.  She is just not that into them.  She will eat her baby food, but not that much at one time.  She is still only eating about a 1/3 of a jar at a time, and she really does not like her vegetables. It has been slow going, and I am trying to not get frustrated and to let her go at her own pace.  This weekend, she did really well, not only did she eat her peas and brown rice on more than one occasion, but she actually seemed to enjoy it!  I had to mix the veggies in oatmeal, but hey, whatever works.  But even more exciting is that on Saturday, June 12, she ate her very first Cheerios!!  Mark has been waiting for this forever since Cheerios are his favorite cereal.  He eats them all the time and couldn’t wait to share the experience with Samantha.  It is so funny, she will put anything and everything in her mouth and we are always dragging things away from her.  But food, no.  Food she will not put in her mouth on her own.  But if you feed them to her, she will eat them right up.  So Mark sat and fed her Cheerios one by one and she really liked them!  On Sunday we were at Mark’s parents for an early Father’s Day dinner and she had Rice Krispies there which were also a hit.  Yay Sam!  I hope she is on the road to eating better and better.

I gave her some Cheerios in a bowl today which she, of course, promptly dumped out, but she had fun with the bowl.  She is so silly.  I did get her to eat some Cheerios in between silliness though : )

Here are some additional recent pictures of Samantha.  This first one was taken last Sunday in her Exersaucer. We try to give her time there as often as possible because she really loves it. We have been using it since she was about 5 months old, and it took a long time before she got the hang of it and was able to really make it work on her own.  We used to have to push every button and make everything work for her amusement.  Now she is in total control, and makes all the songs play, and the lights light on her own.

These next ones were also taken just last week not long after she started crawling.  I love this first pose. For a while she was doing this frequently.  I think she looks like she is doing downward facing dog in yoga!

DSC_1606

Here she is actually crawling!  She LOVES the remote control.  It is the one thing, besides my laptop, that sends her sailing across the room.  Don’t you love the look of utter concentration on her face?

We recently got a new shed because our old one was in sad shape and was really way too small to house all the stuff we already had, not to mention all the stuff we will have soon now that we have Sam.  It was packed to the rafters, and there was definitely no room for a bike, a sled, a wagon, and anything else Sam will accumulate.  While Mark was doing some work on organizing the new shed Sam and I sat in our backyard.  She was trying out the new beach toys that my mom got her.  There’s no sand, but she looks like she is having fun anyway!

Last but not least, this one was taken actually a few weeks ago, but there are not many photos where Zephyr will let Sam near her for very long, so I wanted to post it.  I love seeing them together.

On the move!

| June 7, 2010

Sam is finally crawling!  Today I had her on the ground playing like usual in our family room. I was sitting watching the news and had my netbook on the floor.  Sam is all about computers…I think she is just attracted to the screen more than anything.  Well, every time it sits on the floor, she goes after it and I am always pulling it away from her. Today she decided she wanted it and went for it.  She crawled over to it and started banging away.  I couldn’t believe it.

She looked so darn cute.  She crawls really slowly like she is concentrating very, very hard.  Every move is so deliberate.  It’s like you can see the wheels spinning in her head – “leg, arm, other leg, arm again….”  She doesn’t go very far before she falls over flat and she sort of goes sideways a bit when she is crawling.  I was so shocked when I saw her that I yelled down to Mark, who had just gone into the basement to start working, and he came up and saw her do it too.  We kept practicing with her all day long so she’d get more comfortable with the whole thing and boy was she worn out!  She took an hour nap in the morning, then two hours later, took another hour and a half nap. She went to bed pretty early too.  I can’t believe she finally on the move.  Any day now she won’t be going so slow and she’ll be tooling all over the house!

Lazy Sunday

| June 6, 2010

Today we decided to have a lazy kind of day around the house since yesterday was so busy.  Besides our school tour, we had so many errands to run that we were out all day.  Of course, if we are sitting around, we thought some new pictures of Samantha were in order.

Sam is getting so wiggly anymore.  Ever since she figured out how to roll from belly to back, and back to belly, and to get up into a sitting position and back down again there is just no controlling her.  She is really hard to hold because she just wants to move all the time.  She is still trying to figure out crawling, but she loves to stand.  She always has.  I was holding her on my lap and she wiggled her way down onto the floor, so I let her stand holding the couch.  It was only a minute or so before she turned herself around and was leaning against the couch not holding on at all.  She looked so cute that Mark grabbed his camera and took some pictures of her. Doesn’t she look pleased with her accomplishment?

I took some pictures of her with Mark too, since I never think there are enough.  He is always taking pictures of me.  I wanted to show just how much she loves her daddy.  She just lights up when she sees him.  I got her up from her afternoon nap today and brought her downstairs and as soon as she saw Mark she started grinning from ear to ear and cooing and making the cutest sounds.  She loves him so much, and I know it is because she feels how much he loves her.  He loves being with Sam so much, and I know he is jealous of the time I get to spend with her because I work part time.  I often wish that he could find a way to do it too, so he could get to spend more time with Samantha.  She gets so much out of all the time we spend with her, and truthfully, we do too.  Here are a couple of pictures of them together.  I love the last two.  He was kissing her cheek and she was just cracking up.
