Happy Father’s Day, Mark

| June 20, 2010

Today is Mark’s first official Father’s Day.  I could just tell from his beaming face this morning that he felt like the luckiest man alive today.  Sam and I decided to let Mark sleep in.  Zephyr on the other hand, came barreling into the bedroom bright and early and meowing up a storm.  Thankfully, I don’t think she woke him up.

After he ate breakfast, we decided to open presents so that Samantha could go down for her nap.  She needed to be rested since we planned on spending the afternoon at the pool!  Here is the proud daddy and his little girl.

She was very helpful in opening gifts.  She is great at tearing paper.  It is actually one of her new favorite things to do.  Magazines, tissues, any kind of paper, she loves to tear it apart.  This gift was a grill pan for grilling veggies and such on our gas grill.

On to gift #2!  Mark said to me a long time ago that he didn’t want me to get rid of her pacifiers and some of her other things like her links that she plays with because he wanted to try to figure out how to keep something of hers forever.  I started doing some research a few months ago and found a place that will bronze pretty much anything, not just baby shoes.  And sure enough they will bronze a pacifier!  Not only that, but they do numerous finishes so I got him nickel since we both like the silver appearance more than the gold or bronze.  He was pretty surprised I think, but very pleased with his gift.  Sam wasn’t too sure about it, however.  Even though she gave up her binkys at about 4-1/2 months of age, she likes her stuff and didn’t like the idea of giving up anything to anyone.  When I explained it was for her daddy she said it was ok though.

As you can see, even though she hasn’t used her binky in a very long time, she hasn’t forgotten how to use one!  Right in her mouth it went.

Zephyr got Mark a very nice book that shows cats and babies in the same poses.  It is really cute.  Here’s Mark with his two babies.  Sam is very kindly offering to share her teething beads with Zepher, who does not seem interested, I must say.

And here they all are, with Mark forcing Sam and Zephyr to share the love. 🙂

Here’s the last gift.  A really nice, handmade leather photo album for him to put his multitudes of Samantha pictures in.

After this, we went to the pool, then out for a nice dinner.  I thought it would be cruel and unusual punishment for Mark to have to eat my cooking.

I hope you had a wonderful first Father’s Day, Mark.  I love you so much.  We waited for so long to have our little girl, and I many, many times thought it would never happen.  But look what we did.  We created the most stunning, amazing, beautiful girl that anyone could ever hope for.  She was worth every second of waiting for her, and I know you agree.

I hope you know that you are an amazing father. Sam will always know she is loved, and she will never doubt that you think she is smart, inventive, funny, beautiful, and unique.  Having a father’s uncompromising love and affection is one of the most incredible gifts a daughter could ask for.  Sam is truly a lucky girl.  And I am very lucky to share this journey with you.  I can’t imagine a better father for my child or a better husband for myself.  Happy Father’s Day. We love you.
