It seems a lot of little things have been going on lately, so I thought I’d do a quick post. Sam has been doing really well. She is crawling around like crazy (we still don’t have gates…what a mistake that has been) and she is standing more and more all the time. She used to only pull herself up on her crib, but now she pulls up on our legs when she is on the floor and she stands on the couch. It is so cute. She stands on the couch and then tries to climb up the back of the couch cushion so she can get to whatever is behind the couch (usually some of her books or the cords for the blinds). Her little legs move and move but she doesn’t get very far climbing a vertical pillow. I feel bad for her and usually give her a boost. One day last week Mark had her on the couch and she actually threw a leg over the arm to try to climb onto the end table!
She has been eating pretty well. For a while, she was eating almost a whole jar for me at least some of the time, but lately she has been backing off a bit. I think she has more teeth coming, but it’s hard to say. She isn’t really happy when you try to look in her mouth. This weekend we celebrated both of our mom’s birthdays and we had strawberry cake for Sandi. Sam LOVED the strawberry cake! I gave her a bunch of bites and she was chowing down. She also ate a piece of a black olive and a piece of turkey. She wouldn’t take more than one bite of either, but at least she ate it and didn’t spit it out. She is really good at feeding herself her Cheerios and her Nature’s Promise veggie sticks now. I actually have to watch her because she shovels them in faster than she can eat them! I have been trying to force her to hold her bottle too, since she is more than capable, she just chooses not to. She rests her hands on her bottle a lot, but doesn’t really hold on, so I started letting go of the bottle when her hands come up so that she realizes that if she doesn’t hold on, the bottle falls. She is really good now and holds it on her own most of the time, except when she is very sleepy.
The only hard thing going on right now is that I think she has some separation anxiety. Every time I try to put her down for a nap she cries and cries no matter how tired she is. And in the middle of the night, after her bottle, she used to just go right back to sleep, now she has been crying a bit when I put her back to bed. She has been really clingy too, wanting to be held all the time. I have to figure out what to do about that, but in the meantime, I am enjoying all the hugs she has been giving me. As a side note, she actually knows how to hug now! She wraps her little arms around your neck and it is so sweet.
Sam will be 10 months on Friday, the day before our shore vacation. I can’t believe it!
