Our Precious :)

| August 9, 2010

Yesterday Sam started doing the funniest thing.  She is always making new noises and we are never sure what she is going to do next.  Usually, she gets tired of her noises quickly and moves on so we have to enjoy them for as long as they last.  Yesterday, she was making her normal sounds (the typical gagaga, bababa, mamama, etc.) but in this funny growly, deep voice. Mark called it her Gollum voice (if you have not seen The Lord of the Rings trilogy, shame on you, go watch them….right now!)  It is really hard to explain, but honestly, she sounds like Gollum if he were babbling baby talk.  So cute.  We’ll see how long it lasts.

I don’t know what got into her sleepwise last night.  She went to bed normal time, and was asleep by 7:30ish.  She never woke up last night, except around 5:00 a.m., I could hear her making little crying noises in her sleep. I haven’t been feeling well lately, so I really wanted to sleep in as long as I could, so I went in and gave her a little bottle in hopes she would sleep past 6:00 a.m.  I was going to be happy with 6:30 or 6:45.  At 8:00 I woke up and she was still asleep! I actually had to wake her up.  I was so afraid that her entire schedule today would be a mess, but I didn’t really care because it would have been worth it for the extra time I got in bed this morning.  Surprisingly, she took her morning nap AND her afternoon nap, right on schedule.  Tonight she went to bed at her normal time.  I swear, I am so lucky.  She is such a wonderful baby.

She has been moving around so much more these days. She crawls really fast and is starting to climb things when she can.  She loves to climb the couch cushions and she stands all the time now.  She isn’t doing a lot of creeping yet, but I keep thinking she will soon.  She loves to stand up holding anything she can.  One of her favorite things these days is the dishwasher.  Any time I am loading or unloading it, she comes crawling over and stands there holding the rack or the door.  She likes to pull out the silverware. I have no idea what the fascination is, but I have told her that if she keeps it up, it will become her chore as soon as possible!  We have been trying to work out the gate situation but it is so hard because the areas we want to gate off are either too large or too small for standard gates.  So in the meantime, we have been blocking her with chairs and all kinds of other things.  It worked for a while, but she is so smart.  She has figured out how to get around things now, no matter what we put in her way.  It is frustrating for sure, but also kind of exciting seeing how her mind works, and how she learns, and how she is problem solving already.

I can’t believe I am making plans for her 1st birthday party already!  She is growing up so fast.  It is exciting and wonderful watching her grow, but also sad, because my little newborn baby is long gone.  Pretty soon, she will no longer be a baby, but a toddler.  I am definitely not ready for that.

Sam’s Swingin’ Session!

| August 7, 2010

We’ve taken Sam to several playgrounds to go swinging and she always seem to like it. Until today she only used bucket swings but this morning, I set up a nice Little Tikes swing in the maple tree in our front yard. It took a little while to set up safely in a way that won’t hurt the tree but it was all worth it. As you can see, she had a blast! Of course, so did Pam and I!

My little sleepyhead

| August 6, 2010

Thankfully, Sam has been sleeping so well lately!  (Did I just jinx myself?  Hmmm….)

Her sleep habits had been such a mess before vacation.  I had mentioned how she was screaming and crying every time she’d get into her crib, and she wouldn’t take a nap easily.  Well, on vacation, a time when we thought her sleep would be a disaster, she slept like a log!  She was getting up at 6:00 a.m., but she slept through the night all but once, and she did take naps.  I was worried that once we got home the change in routine (again) would mess her up.  She is doing great!  Not only has she been sleeping through the night and not waking up until almost 7:00, but she is napping like a champ too.

Now if I could only figure out why she is suddenly turned off of baby food….

Mark’s Company Picnic

| August 2, 2010

On Saturday, yes, the day we got home from the shore, Mark had his company picnic.  Traditionally, each year SAP has a summer picnic on the grounds of his office.  And “picnic” might be an understatement.  The festivities are quite impressive.  There is music (sometimes a live band), a ton of food, drink, carnival rides for little kids, and all kinds of crazy things.  This year, the theme was Wizards & Wonders, but honestly, it was a huge Harry Potter rip off.  Not that I am complaining, Mark and I love Harry Potter. And they did an amazing job.  There was a field where the older kids were playing Quiddich (not flying, of course!) and there were tons of decorations to fit the Wizarding theme.  There were people dressed in costume, a Potions class in the cafeteria (where kids were making some sort of drinks), a place where they could make a wand (a huge pixie stick sort of thing) and a bunch of other activities including unicorn rides (ponies), a live animal display (complete with owl!) by the Philadelphia Zoo, and a Hogwarts Express train ride.  We weren’t sure if we were going to go at all because we were just getting home and we figured we’d be exhausted.  Ultimately, we went because we had been home for hours, and because we could get free food!

There was a whole section on display with a bunch of different plants and acorns and such for the kids to touch.  I think it was supposed to be a spells display or something. Anyway, it gave us a good opportunity to let Sam feel a bunch of different textures.

In my opinion, this was one of the coolest things.  There was someone dressed up in a costume to look like a huge tree.  It was reaching out its branches to touch and hug everyone. I thought Sam would be scared, but she loved it!

There was a cute little wizard puppet next to the main stage.  I thought Sam might like him, and she did.  What a perfect photo op!

And with Severus Snape and Mad Eye Moody!

We went inside to eat to get out of the heat for a while. This is not actually Mark’s building, but the newer one they built directly across from his.  We thought the architecture was really cool and would make an interesting picture.

Later, we visited Mark’s cube.

Sam had some voicemails to return, so she borrowed her Daddy’s headset.

I hope SAP keeps doing this every year so that when Sam is bigger she can actually take part in more of the activities, but  all in all, we had a great time!
