Pam and I put off buying a gate for as long as possible but the time has come. We liked letting Sam crawl all around the first floor and followed behind her happily but she is just getting too fast and too inquisitive for her own good. So, we gated off the space between the kitchen and family room. It is really hard to find gates for our circa 1938 era house. One doorway is only 24″ and the other is 92″! Of course, most gates don’t fit these sizes but we were finally able to find one for the bigger doorway, now we just need to find a solution for the smaller one.
Sam is of course not too thrilled with the new gate but is taking it in stride. I tried to get a photo of her checking it out today and in between some really pooky expressions, I got one really cute frame. Hope you like it.

Sam had been sleeping so well. I knew it was not destined to last. After a few weeks of sleeping through the night, and taking really great, long naps, her teething started again. I think she has something coming on the top, but it is so hard to tell. She has all the signs though — disrupted sleep, generally grumpiness, chewing on anything and everything, and the awful sounding grinding of the teeth she does have. Mark and I are so exhausted. Sam is having the worst time sleeping and that means we are too. Of course, Sam is lucky enough to be able to take a nap to recuperate, which we can’t do. But that’s the luxurious life of a baby! I am hoping whatever is coming will pop through soon so we all get back to normal.
Thankfully, the teething is not affecting her eating habits, which it has been known to do. Sam has been showing more and more interest in table food lately. She doesn’t eat a lot of anything, but she has been more willing to try a lot of things. I have been trying to keep a list in my head of what she has had so far. I think this encompasses it:
-carrots
-green beans
-french fries
-pizza
-garlic bread
-pasta
-lettuce
-mashed potatoes
-Cheerios
-Nature’s Promise veggie sticks
-chocolate cookies
-egg
-watermelon
-soft pretzels
-tortilla chips
-chicken
Now, this list is just things she has actually willingly put in her mouth. I think there are a few other things like cheese, yogurt, and some fruits that I have shoved in there that she alternatively was or wasn’t too thrilled about. But she’s getting there! Admittedly, the list does not always contain the most nutritious of items, but at this point, I am just trying to get her to eat anything on her own without much care for what it is. Hopefully soon she will be eating enough table food at least once per day that I can consider it a meal!
