Happy birthday to my lovely bride Pam! This last year has been so wonderful watching Samantha grow up and watching you turn into such an incredible and devoted mother. We are both so lucky to have you. Thanks for helping me learn to be a good father and for everything you do, especially taking such great care of our lovely daughter.

I had such a nice weekend with Sam. Thursday was a holiday at work, and since I don’t work on Fridays or Mondays, I had a nice long 5 day weekend! Whoo hoo! The weekend was hectic of course, but it was fun. Saturday we had my birthday dinner with my parents. Here is a pic of Sam helping me blow out my candles. She was really into the cake so I hope she is as excited about her own in a few weeks!
And here she is helping me open my presents.
On Monday, Sam took a nap so early — she woke up at around 7:00 a.m. and was asleep by 8:00! She barely stayed up long enough to see Mark before he headed off to work. Since she was up by 9:00, we ran out to run some errands then went to Creative Babies at the library. I took her once when she was really small and she was asleep through most of it, but this time I think she really liked it. She crawled around and looked at all the other babies, and sort of paid attention to at least half of the songs. I really had fun with her there and am hoping I can take her back again soon.
After Creative Babies, we went to the playground and she played on the sliding board (with my assistance) and on the swing. We had such a great day. Having days like Monday makes me realize how important it is that I stay home with her like I do. If I was working all the time, I would miss being able to spend these days with her, and I just couldn’t bear it.
Other random things this weekend: Sam chowed down on broccoli (yay!), she managed to go backwards down a few stairs, and she is cruising a lot more than she ever did before. She has so much more confidence with standing and moving that I will be surprised if she is not walking soon (not that I am in a rush…)
I can’t wait for my week to be over so I can spend Friday with her having fun. Mark and I are going out on Saturday for our anniversary so Sam will be spending the night at my parents’ house — a night of freedom and sleeping in! We won’t know what to do with ourselves!

The weather today was pretty yucky with all of the rain so we didn’t have a lot of plans to go running around today. Sam took a morning nap (yay! first one in about a week) and when she woke up she just looked so adorably rumply that Mark wanted to take some pictures. The light in her room was really nice so he took them up there. She is sitting in my grandmom’s old rocking chair that we painted up nicely for her room.
In this first pic, I think she looks full of mischief. 🙂
Her eyes are so bright in these photos, and her hair looks cute all messed up. We think she looks adorable!
Gotta love that smile!
Here I am holding my little bundle. I just love looking at her. I could spend hours doing it. Mark captured my expression, which I think shows just perfectly how enamored I am with Sam.

My little woodchuck….she has never been a crib chewer. She only did it once that I could tell a few months ago and hasn’t done it since. I thought maybe she wouldn’t be one of those kids who chewed their crib and I was really happy about that. Well…so much for that. This morning she was so tired but she wouldn’t go to sleep. I was watching her on the video monitor and saw her standing up holding on to the side of the crib like she always does. It faces the door there, so that is where she stands most often hoping to get our attention. At any rate, I heard this weird scraping noise through the monitor and couldn’t imagine what it was. I decided to investigate. I walked into her room to see her little mouth chomping away on her crib! This is what she managed to do in about 30 seconds:
I ran out this morning to buy teething guards for the crib…

Tonight Mark wanted something different for dinner so we decided to order Chinese. Sam ate some rice and broccoli (I don’t think she ate the chicken) so it was a good choice.
Mark opened Sam’s fortune cookie for her and we thought that it was a wonderful first fortune for our little girl. It conveys a very important message right in line with everything we want to teach her about being strong and independent. Here is Sam’s fortune:
“They cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them.”
I hope she always keeps that in mind as she grows up to be an incredible woman, which we know she will. 🙂
