Christmas Eve

| December 26, 2010

This year we spent Christmas Eve trying to do some fun things with Sam.  The whole week was so crazy,  baking cookies, wrapping presents, trying to get everything ready f0r Santa to arrive, that the time just slipped away. Mark and I had off from work  the whole week and it flew by like it was one day.

We got as much done as we possibly could so that on Christmas Eve we could relax and have some fun.  Our only order of business was to build Sam’s gingerbread house.  What an adventure that was!  This was really the first time I ever built one.  For some reason, even though my childhood Christmases were filled with traditional events, we never did the gingerbread house.  So I wasn’t exactly an expert builder.  It turned out ok in the end, but it was quite an uphill battle!  I don’t think we waited long enough after assembly to start decorating because the roof almost slid off at least twice.  We had it held up by load-bearing toothpicks and then when they kept collapsing, straws.  So funny. Sam didn’t seem to mind at all.  She had fun watching us make a huge mess and then tried to grab it and disassemble our masterpiece within minutes.  All in all, I think it turned out pretty well!  I bought gingerbread house molds last year so that someday I can make one from scratch, but with the way it went this year, I am glad we at least had a pre-baked one!

Later that night while waiting for all of our parents to arrive, we took some pictures.  Our little Zephyr cat was a super snuggly kitten. 🙂

Mark parents arrived first and Sam posed for a photo.  She was so excited, I really think she knew something was going on, even though she didn’t understand Santa.

She was getting tired, that’s for sure, but she was in such a good mood!  Sam was all smiles the whole night and all of her grandparents had a great time hanging out with her.  She was really so giggly, it was adorable.

As per our tradition, Mark read Twas the Night Before Christmas.  He only got a few pages in before Sam was wiggling away.  She is really hard to read to now.  She used to sit still for a whole book, but now that she is older she just has too much to do to read a book!  It has been a while since we have been able to read her more than a few pages of any book.  We are really looking forward to being able to cuddle with her and to read again.  But, since we want to maintain the tradition, he read what he could.

After Sam was in bed, we brought all her presents up to put them under the tree.  That is, the ones that we bought her.  Who knew what Santa was going to bring!

Then it was off to bed!  Santa is on the way and everyone needed to get to sleep!

Merry Christmas!

| December 24, 2010

Although she doesn’t do much posting, this is technically “Samantha’s First Blog” so she wanted me to wish everyone a Merry Christmas for her.  Everyone enjoy your day and keep watch for pictures from Sam’s Christmas Eve and morning — they will be coming soon!

Santa’s on his way….

…and the Myers Family is ready!  Here is our tree.

We think our living room looks Christmas-y and very festive.

We look pretty nice too, if we do say so ourselves!  Today we were finally able to get some really nice family portraits.

Zephyr is part of our family, of course, so we grabbed her (literally – she tried to escape) for some pictures.  We were actually shocked at how well behaved both Zephyr and Sam were together.  It was very cute.

Sam and her devoted daddy.  They are quite a cute couple!

Sam was getting tired, so she put her head down as if to take a break.  But the smiles still came out!

All of the presents we bought are wrapped, and the cookies are baked.  All that’s left to do is to build Sam’s gingerbread house with her tomorrow, and then wait for Santa Claus!

How could I forget?

| December 23, 2010

There was one picture that Mark took with all those other ones I just posted that I totally forgot to post and it is one of our favorites!  Samantha has the cutest expression.  Mark asked me why I didn’t post it, but it was truly just an oversight.  Sorry, honey!

Last night Sam was in the kitchen with us and out of the blue she started walking around without holding onto anything!  She has not really been walking much, despite the fact that she took her first unassisted steps quite a while ago.  At the time, we had hoped (and expected) she would be walking by Christmas, but we have been having our doubts lately.  She did really well last night — she probably went about 3-4 feet before plopping down.  She tripped on her highchair, so it wasn’t really her fault.  She walked along on her own about 3 times before she had enough and was back scooting on her butt.  She never crawls now.  She is either scooting along or walking holding on.  It’s like she thinks crawling is for babies and she is a big girl now.  I got some video of her walking, including her tumble.  This morning I was watching the video on the camcorder and Sam was watching too (she loves to see her pictures).  When we got to the part where she fell, she cracked up!  Well, at least she has a good attitude.  Every time she takes a little tumble, we try to make it seem funny so she doesn’t get discouraged.  Hopefully, she will be toddling around soon!

Our Christmas Cutie Pie

| December 22, 2010

Since this past weekend, Mark has been taking a lot of random pictures of Sam in preparation for getting our family Christmas portraits.  There were so many “test” shots that looked too cute for words, that I have to post some of them.

We strung lights ALL OVER our house this year since Sam is so enamored with them.  You can see how happy they make her.

I love her little face when it is looking right at me smiling, but sometimes I think the pictures where she is pensively looking off into the distance are sweet.  I don’t recall what she was looking at here, but it captured her attention.  Zephyr maybe?

DSC_5555

Here she is happily playing with the string on her horse pull toy, completely oblivious to the fact that Mark needed her to model.

DSC_5631

Oh, you need my attention?  Why didn’t you say so?

DSC_5633

No matter how much Sam has changed in the last year, one thing that hasn’t is her love for snowmen.  They were her favorite last year, and they are this year too.  I love the little tongue sticking out.  She does that when she concentrates, and Mark does too (although he doesn’t stick his out quite so far!)  She is just like her daddy in so many ways.

She is looking at her Christmas stocking here, perhaps wondering what goodies Santa will stuff it with….

These pictures were taken tonight while testing some poses.  I am sure Mark won’t like these photos, but I do.  In fact, I was having some trouble getting these pictures to post, and a minute ago Mark came down to help me, and he said, why are you posting those?  Ha. I knew it.  Anyway, I just like them because we don’t have a lot of family photos with the three of us, and I think we all look really happy.  And we are really happy. The last week or so has been really stressful with all the holiday planning, running out of time, the usual, so you wouldn’t necessarily know it, but it is nice to see proof that we are one big happy family. 🙂
