More Progress!

Sam did the most exciting thing today.  Mark’s parents came over for dinner and to visit with Sam and she was being really good.  She was eating really well at dinner, enjoying her pasta, broccoli, and watermelon.  I gave her a fork about halfway through dinner so she could continue practicing sticking her food.  She has gotten really good at it lately but generally once she sticks the food, she pulls it off with her other hand and then puts it in her mouth. I have tried to show her how to actually use a fork by guiding it to her mouth but she always pulls her face away.  She is very independent with eating — anything you have to feed her (like things off of a spoon) she has been refusing now because she likes to feed herself.

Anyway, at dinner she was doing really well practicing with her fork when all of the sudden she stuck a piece of watermelon and put the fork in her mouth!  We were so excited that when Mark and I noticed we started clapping and cheering for her.  Rich and Sandi did too when we told them that it was her very first time actually eating off of a fork.  Sam saw us all clapping and cheering and got so excited. She had this look on her face like she didn’t know why we were making a fuss over her, but she liked it!  She did it a second time and we all clapped again, then Sam started clapping for herself.  I love when she claps because she makes no sound, but her motions are correct.  After those few times, she started using her hands to eat but after each bite went in, she would look at us then start clapping, so of course, we had to clap too.  She didn’t really understand the difference, I guess, but that’s ok.  She always deserves applause!

Sam ate clams!

| February 22, 2011

Since before Sam was born, my mom and I have been discussing my utter hatred for any type of seafood whatsoever, and how I sincerely don’t want to pass on that dislike to Sam. I really want her to like all sorts of foods I don’t like such as seafood, peanuts/peanut butter, and mushrooms.  We have been working on peanut butter, which she sometimes eats (mostly in peanut butter crackers) and sometimes not (on bread).  Today, my mom decided to be adventurous and give Sam clams of all things!  I didn’t even know this, but my mom likes breaded, fried clams.  She figured that since Sam has been eating tater tots, if she threw some breaded clams on her plate too, as long as everything was cut to the same size, Sam wouldn’t know the difference because everything would look the same.  Sam ate them right down!  Yikes!  I am so glad.  My little girl is branching out.  I am so proud. 🙂

Taking time to stop and smell the roses

| February 21, 2011

Well, they aren’t roses, but still, they are flowers and that’s just as good.  Mark didn’t post these pics from the mansion at Ridley Creek, but I thought they were so cute.  Sam is making her cute little surprised face in a few of them.  I just love that face.

My pretty little girl is so gentle.  She always reaches out to touch things so softly.  I have been trying to teach her to touch certain things gently by telling her “just one finger” and sometimes she gets it, sometimes not, but I am trying.

In other news, Sam hasn’t been eating all that well, and Mark mentioned her crazy on and off again naps.  We finally figured out why — another tooth popped through this weekend.  I don’t know why after all this time we never recognize the signs.  We never would have guessed except when looking at some pictures Mark took of her this weekend, in one where she was laughing and her mouth was wide open, we could see her tooth.  My poor baby.  She has been waking up crying and miserable every few hours at night.  The only thing that consoles her is being held so I have been spending a lot of time in the glider half asleep.  Mark and I are both exhausted, but Sam is too and I feel worse for her than for us.  Today she took a really long 2.5 hour nap, and she went to bed on time, so hopefully she will have a quiet night.

Other than her teething, she is doing great.  Getting so big, and growing up so fast, and of course, the joy of our lives!

Our little Super Grover!

| February 20, 2011

Pam has mentioned her love for Hatley pajamas on here many times. Well, it turns out that recently they struck a deal with Sesame Street to make some branded toddler clothes! I tried to hide the credit card from Pam but to no avail. We love a lot of the Sesame Street characters but our mutual runaway favorite has always been Grover. Looks like Sam loves him too. 🙂

Daddy’s girl

| February 20, 2011

My little girl is getting so big, I can’t believe how fast she is growing. We had a lot of fun this weekend, she was stuck to me like glue on Saturday. We played so hard in the morning that she went for a nap at 11:30 and slept for 2.5 hours! Of course, then today she wouldn’t nap at all. Consistency is not  a word in her vocabulary. Anyway, here is she having some fun with Daddy yesterday while Mommy was taking a shower:
