The Big Dig

| April 12, 2011

This weekend we had so much fun with Sam. The weather was nice and she was happy to be outside playing.  She is quite the little runner now, getting faster and faster tooling around in our backyard.  This is usually all we get to see as she is running away from us looking to get into mischief.

See, mischief.  Look at that face.  Looks like an “I just got into trouble” face if I ever saw one.

She has a whole bunch of shovels and other assorted garden type toys and Mark recently taught her to dig. She picked it up right away, and now it is one of her favorite things to do.  She knows her toys are in the shed, and she will lead you over there to open the door, grabs her shovel, then heads off down the driveway to the front yard.  We have allotted her one small area in the corner of the flower bed for digging.

Now if I could only get her to put the dirt she digs back into the flower bed instead of all over the walkway (or herself) that would be great.   She is having fun though, so I guess that’s all that matters!

Sam’s gardening prowess is not limited to the flower beds, however.  She also is quite adept at re-arranging my flower pot (which, admittedly, is not ready for summer yet.)  Maybe Sam will have some planting tips!

Most of this time, Mark was outside with Sam.  I was inside doing, well, whatever I was doing.  I went out on the porch to say hi and it looked like Sam wanted me to open the porch door so she could come in.  Nope. She wanted me to come out!  Sam is always dragging someone around by the hand.  She loves for you to follow her everywhere.

Things Sam did today

| April 5, 2011

1.  Took a 3 1/2 hour nap at Grandmom’s!  (Seriously.  3 1/2 hours.  What’s up with that?)

2.  Brought mommy the bowl of leftovers that I left on the kitchen floor with my purse and forgot to put in the refrigerator.  (She is getting so helpful.)

3.  Stood inside an Easter basket, numerous times.  (Why, I have no idea.  Apparently this is hysterical.)

4.  Missed her daddy.  She was Dad Dad Dadding all day long.  (So cute. She loves her daddy!)

5.  Ate 10 of her 11 rigatonis at dinner with her fork!  This is a very big accomplishment for our little Sam.  Usually, she will sort of half heartedly use her fork, deciding she likes to use her hands to eat instead. Either that, or she will stick the food onto the fork, then pull it off with her other hand to eat it. Tonight she was really trying.  She needed some assistance getting the food onto the fork, but once I helped her do that, she would put the fork in her mouth herself to eat. She did such a great job!  I clapped for each mouthful and that sort of spurred her on to do it again and again.

Busy, busy days for little toddler girls.  What will she do next?!

I always think Sam looks so cute in the morning with her hair all rumply. It’s getting really long now and takes a good bit of effort to wash and blow dry all the time but it is so worth it! Here she is not long after getting up this morning:

This is her sly little trouble-making grin:
