Tyler Arboretum

| May 24, 2011

This weekend Mark and I met Krista, Adam and Maddox at the Tyler Arboretum so that the kids could spend some time together.  They always seem so happy to see each other.  They smile at each other coyly and they make each other laugh.  Maddox, being 3 months older, is a little ahead of Sam and she just watches him and absorbs everything he is doing. I think she is learning by watching him and that’s a good thing.

We specifically went to see the Treehouses display that has been at Tyler for the last few years.  They absolutely loved it!  Here is the first of four posts of our day (boy did Mark get a lot of great pictures!)

Sam is leaning in for a hug.  I mentioned before in a picture with Sam and Zephyr, that is her typical hug position.

Maddox nicely complied and hugged Sam instead.

Hey, where are you going?

That crazy Maddox!  He’s always running off without me!

These treehouses are fun!  It’s so weird to be up in a tree!

Maddox and his dad, Adam in a bridge that leads to one of the prettiest treehouses.

I love this picture.  It really emphasizes how little Maddox is.

Extra, extra, read all about it!

Sam and her dad

As Mark is our designated photographer, there never seem to be enough pictures of Sam and her daddy.  This past week I tried to rectify that situation.  I love seeing them together.  Nothing makes Mark smile like his little girl, and she loves spending time with him.  So many times he is working, or I am putting her down for a nap or bed and all I hear is DadDadDad!!!!

Mark has recently starting wearing a beaded necklace and you can be sure that Sam is all over it.

The mutual lovefest continues!

Mommy’s little helper

| May 23, 2011

Sam has become such a good little assistant.  She really likes to help out with whatever you are doing.  She gives me big handfuls of clothes when I am doing laundry, she unloads the dishwasher, she puts her clothes in the hamper and she is always picking up things off of the floor for us to put in the trash.  She even likes to help with Zephyr.  She likes to put the ice in Zephyr’s water bowl and she is always picking up the food bowls off the floor and putting them into the little wooden holder that Zephyr uses to elevate her food.  Last week, actually, Sam kept pulling me to the freezer and she wanted an ice cube. I couldn’t imagine why until I gave one to her and she ran right over and put it in Zephyr’s water.  She is so sweet.

Lately, she has also started helping outside.  I pulled a bunch of weeds the other day from around our trees and she helped me put everything into the trash bag.  My latest project was trimming back the ivy that has become a huge monster around our light post.  I was in the middle of cutting and I heard Mark say, “give it to mommy” and the next thing I knew Sam was running down the driveway trash bag in hand.  She wouldn’t stop holding it out to me until I took it from her. But that isn’t enough — I asked her to help me put all of the cut ivy into the trash bag and she was very happy to assist!  Now if I could only ensure that she would be just as happy to help when she is a teenager, that would be great!

Puddle Jumping

| May 23, 2011

Just like any other normal kid, Sam loves splashing in puddles. We have had so much rain lately that she certainly has had a lot of them to choose from.  Thankfully, I remembered to roll up her pants before she got soaking wet!

Here is Sam checking out her very cute reflection.

Hey, that’s me!

Now I know why buying her jellies was a good idea — it is easy to dry both her shoes and her feet!

All done splashing, now on to getting some sun.

I had brought Zephyr outside and of course Sam had to come and see her.  Poor Zephyr never gets a minutes peace. Sam is trying to hug her here.  This is generally how Sam hugs everything but people, by just sort of leaning up against it or by butting heads.

I love her little smile here — she is so enamored with her kitty.

What’s that old saying about your face freezing that way?

Sam is always making the funniest faces.  How she can go from looking so sweet….

to so incredibly silly from one second to the next is amazing!

Silly goose!
