Mother’s Day Thanks

| May 9, 2011

Mother’s Day was pretty great this year.  I got wonderful presents, spent the day with my fantastic mother-in-law and my amazing mom.  And best of all, I spent the entire day with my husband and my beautiful daughter.  I am so thankful for everything and everyone, not just on this Mother’s Day, but every day.

Many, many thanks to my incredible husband for being so supportive and for helping me to be the best mom that I can be.  Without you, I would not be able to spend so much time with our little girl and I would not be able to have the time  to enjoy being a parent as much as I do.  Without your help, I wouldn’t be able to be the mom that I am.

Thank you to my mother and father in law for raising a son who is such an amazing dad.  I know he learned how to be such a loving, involved parent from watching you.  Children learn by example, and he certainly learned from you.

Thank you to my own mom and dad for all the support you give me every day.  For always being there when I need help and for helping to raise my daughter while I have to work and otherwise take care of things in my life.  I have tried to tell you many times, but I will say it again — you are great parents and I am very lucky to have you.

And most of all, thank you to my astonishingly wonderful little girl, Samantha.  Sam, being your mom is the best job in the entire world.  There is no job more important to me than this one.  I hope you know that the time I spend away from you is in no way as fulfilling as the moments with you.  I knew I wanted to be a parent, but having you has exceeded every expectation I had about what that experience would actually be like.  You are amazing — beautiful, smart, funny, and fun.  I can’t wait for every day to unfold so that I can see what you will do next.  If babies choose their parents, I am so thankful that you chose me.  Every day I strive to be the best mom I can be because you deserve the very best.  I love you so much.

Here is how my day unfolded.  Breakfast with mommy….

Brunch at the Myers house….

Dinner with my folks…Joe managed to evade all photos…hmmm……

What is she up to now?

Sam started doing the funniest thing yesterday.  She came up with this funny little laugh, more of a chuckle, that sounds vaguely….evil.  Like she is up to something.  It is so hard to explain, but the best way I can describe it is that it reminds me a little bit of how the Count on Sesame Street would laugh after he counts – ha! ha! ha!  She is such a crazy girl.  She keeps doing it, but I think it is mostly because she knows we think it is funny.  I just don’t know where she got it from because although she does see Sesame Street sometimes, she has never seen the Count.  Hmmm……

Linvilla Orchards

| May 9, 2011

Mark and I took Sam to Linvilla Orchards this weekend.  We wanted to buy a pie for Mother’s Day dinner so it seemed like a good opportunity to get Sam outside in the air.  Also, there are a huge number of animals there for her to visit and we knew she’d love that.    When we got there, the first thing Mark did was bring her over to see the deer.  There are machines all over full of various food you can buy for 25 cents so you can feed most of the animals and there was food for the deer.  The deer are really tame, obviously, and are so used to humans that they come right up to the fence.  I fed the deer right from my hand while Sam watched.  As you can imagine, she was seriously amused!

We moved on to the cages with what seemed like hundreds of chickens and roosters as well as turkeys and what Mark and I think are probably pheasants but we aren’t really sure. I never saw so many types of farm birds before.  In some of the fenced areas you could even see eggs!  Sam loved the roosters cock-a-doodle-dooing over and over again.  We took her over to the pond to see the ducks and then to see the goats and I swear, she was so excited she was just running around from one thing to the next.  She didn’t know what animals to look at first.  Mark and I fed the ducks but surprisingly, she was more amused by feeding the chickens!  She quickly figured out that it was the corn that the chickens wanted and every little piece of corn that she found on the ground that someone dropped she’d pick up and try to feed the chickens.  Mark and I wouldn’t let her little fingers too close to the fences though and we just kind of threw it in for them to eat.

We also saw goats, a horse, a pig, some sheep, a very noisy mooing cow, and a few peacocks who were kind enough to open their feathers up for all of us to see.

After all the animals, we took Sam into the little playground.  She was too little for all the slides and climbing things, but I think she had fun anyway.  She kept seeing the little train ride go by and I think she was pretty interested.  We thought about taking her on it, but we really didn’t have a lot of time so we decided to save it for next time.

I think one of the cutest moments was inside where incubators were set up full of not only eggs but baby chicks!  They were so cute and furry.  I tried to explain to Sam that they were baby chickens and I don’t know if she completely understood, but she did say, “baby”, so maybe she did.  Mark and a I are so glad Sam loves animals as much as we do.  We can’t wait to take her back again to let her ride the train, to pick her own fruit, and to do all the fun things Linvilla has to offer!
