Our computer, that is. It is toast. The other day, Sam was watching her movies (the home videos we have stored on the computer) and all of the sudden the entire screen went black. I couldn’t get it to come back on. When I finally shut down and booted back up, everything was sort of haywire. Mark tried for hours to get it fixed but no luck. That had me a little worried. Mark can usually fix just about any computer problem we have. Now, I’m not saying the computer is messed up because Sam was pushing random keys on the keyboard or anything, but…it is a strange coincidence! No, truthfully, at first we really thought it was something Sam had done, but it could have been any number of problems. The computer people we finally had to relinquish our PC to told us that the operating system is corrupted and they have to reinstall Windows. I seriously doubt that Sam could have accomplished that with a few random keystrokes. So, hopefully we will have our computer back soon so that I can post some of the adorable pictures Mark has been taking. I have so much to blog about — Zephyr’s birthday, Hurricane Irene!, and who knows what else. I’ll be back soon!

Wow! Today Sam, and all of us, experienced something I honestly never thought we would — an earthquake! There was a 5.8 magnitude earthquake centered in Virginia and the tremors were felt as far away as Philadelphia and New York. It was quite the experience. I was at work, Mark was working from home and Sam was at my mom’s house. It was after lunch and all of the sudden the building starting shaking really hard. We all rushed out of our building until we were sure everything was ok. When I talked to Mark soon after he said the house really shook, but everything was fine at home. Zephyr wasn’t happy though! I called my mom to see if they felt it and they certainly did! Sam woke up from her nap but was pretty much taking it in stride. My mom asked her, “Did that earthquake wake you up?” and Sam said, “Noise!” I am happy she didn’t seem scared and that everyone was ok. It was a pretty minor quake by California standards, but I hope we never feel anything like that again!

Sam has been on a real sock kick lately. Every day she wants to wear socks and she is insisting on wearing them to bed too, no matter what the temperature. Not only does she want to wear socks, but she generally chooses them as well. This morning, she absolutely HAD TO wear yellow socks. Thank goodness we had a pair! I wasn’t too sure she did. The other day, she chose these socks that Mark’s friend and co-worker, Claudia, knit for her. Sam was so funny at dinner showing them off.
The socks became mittens halfway through dinner. Sam thought this was just too funny. She looks so proud of herself! Oh yes, and her Moosejaw bumper sticker looks just lovely with her shirt, don’t you think? Sam is really into stickers lately and when Mark ordered some clothes from Moosejaw and they sent him the sticker, she just had to have it.
My big girl kicking back drinking a juice box.
It is so funny how independent she is with her clothes now. She likes to choose at least one piece of clothing every day and she is getting pretty good at putting things on. She tries with some level of success to put on her pants, she will help with her shirt, and sometimes she gets her socks on. Depending on what shoes we choose, she can get those on as well. I can’t believe a day will come soon when she will be telling me exactly what she wants to wear, and I won’t have any say at all!

Sam has the cutest towels for after her bath. My favorite, and hers, is her Elmo towel, but the ducky towel ranks right up there as #2. Every time we wrap her up, I show her what she looks like in the mirror. She always smiles. Bath time is so much fun now, for Sam and for us!

We have had such torrential rain lately it has been ridiculous. One day recently we got more than 5 inches of rain in one day. One morning, Sam and I were looking at the rain and she was fascinated by getting her hands and feet wet. Mark took these cute pictures of her experimenting.
I told her to stick her foot out in the rain and she happily obliged.
I love the look on her face here. I can’t decide if she looks confused, befuddled or just bored.
