Sam had such a wonderful Halloween this year! We picked an Elmo costume since we thought that was our best chance of getting her to actually wear it. She has an Elmo hooded bath towel that she loves, so we figured it was sort of the same thing. She loved her costume. Before we even put in on her she was walking around hugging it! She also loved getting candy. Sam wasn’t scared at all. She walked door to door with us collecting her candy and said Thank You every time (with a little prompting, of course). Halloween was so great this year. She loved the decorations, the trick or treat, the costumes. It is exactly what Mark and I have been waiting for. I loved taking her door to door and can’t wait to do it again next year when I am sure she will have a definite opinion about her costume. Here are some pics from her first ever trick or treat.
Here’s Elmo!
I am not sure what she was trying to do here, other than just hamming it up for the camera!
We were headed to my parents’ house pre-trick or treat so they could see her dressed up. She is ready to go!
She decided to sample some of the candy we were planning on giving out after dinner.
Here’s Sam before her costuming, wearing her Halloween orange.
Time for trick or treat!
Can you believe the haul this kid got? We hit just about every house on our block. Sam kept handing Mark and I pieces of candy saying, “Open!” We had to convince her that one or two pieces before bed was quite enough!
She kept looking at us like, “Back off my candy!” Don’t worry Samantha, it’s all yours!

It’s not quite winter yet, but you wouldn’t know it by looking out the window today. It’s not even Halloween yet and we got snow! It started snowing a lot earlier in the day than the weather forecasters predicted (what else is new?) so we got to take Sam outside to play. We just bought Sam a new winter coat and snow pants, but we didn’t have snow boots that fit. Luckily, we stopped in Carter’s today and found a pair that fit her. Just in time! Last year Sam went out in the snow with us but I don’t think she liked it all that much. This time though, she was ready to go. Mark asked her if she wanted to go play in the snow and I couldn’t get her snow pants and boots on her fast enough. She was all decked out in her coat and snow pants, her boots, her new winter hat (that we also bought today) and her mittens.
Mark made Sam a snowball which she examined thoroughly.
Next up, it’s Snowman Time! Last year, Sam was so not interested in the multitudes of snow we had so we didn’t even bother making her a snowman, which is one of her all time favorite wintery things. This time, she was so excited to see her new snow friend.
She liked him so much, she gave him a hug.
Sam insisted on swinging in her swing, despite the freezing cold and the snow coming down. Thankfully, that didn’t last long, but she did want to stop to swing her cat.
Ok, Sam, it’s time to get inside and have a warm bath, snuggly pajamas, and a snack before bed. There’s always next time!

Sam can count to 4! This is the first time I have ever heard her count. We have been counting with her forever hoping something would sink in, and last night, while reading one of her books, she asked me to count the balloons, so I did. Right after I did it, she said, 1-2-3-4! I was so excited and she knew it. I asked her to do it again and again and she did. She kept saying “More More” and I said “More what?” and she said, “Counting!” We were already in her room getting ready for bed, but I called to Mark so she could count for him. She counted on cue and he clapped for her which she loved. I promised her that every time she counted we would clap. Mark wondered if she really knew what she was doing and I assured him that she did, but he was doubtful. Today though we went to Wal-Mart and he told me she was passing the bicycles and counting them 1-2-3-4 as she passed. So she definitely does!
She is talking more and more and saying so many words that I don’t even know where she is learning them. About a week or so ago, she said her last name for the first time! She knows she is Samantha Myers. We are so proud of how much progress she makes every day. Our little prodigy is so amazing!

Sam is quite fascinated with stickers. She will go through sheets and sheets of them in a matter of minutes. Mostly, all she likes to do with them is stick them on her shirt, and half of them wind up on top of each other, but whatever, she is having fun. The other day though she quietly, and methodically, started putting stickers on one of our pillows. She really was thinking about where each one should go. After she was done, I told her I would take her picture, the artist with her masterpiece! Most of the stickers are still on the pillow, even though this was over a week ago. She pulls some off once sometimes and puts them on her shirt or pajamas (she sleeps with a sticker or two quite often). At least it is keeping me from opening a new pack for her for a while. She was so proud of herself for what she accomplished, and I must say, I am proud of her talent too.

About a week ago, we met a friend and her kids at Linvilla Orchards so that the kids could play together, visit the animals, and see Pumpkinland. What a crazy day! We sort of underestimated the number of people who would be there (why, I don’t know since we’ve been there before). It was a madhouse, a total crush, but the kids had fun. Sam enjoyed looking at the animals, playing the the playground, and picking out pumpkins!
Our house is all decked out for Halloween this year, something I don’t normally do. I don’t particularly like Halloween, but with a little one, I am starting to remember why I used to think it was so great. I can’t wait to dress Sam up and take her trick or treating this year. And Sam loves it — after all, the lights I strung are orange! She loves running around pointing out all the pumpkins, ghosts, bats, and spiders I have in our windows. This past weekend, I went outside while Sam was looking out to try to surprise her. She was pretty shocked to see Mommy pop up!
