Getting ready for the Easter Bunny

| March 29, 2012

Sam has been getting very excited about the Easter Bunny visiting soon.  Well, maybe not so much about the Bunny himself, but the candy we keep promising he will leave in her basket.  My girl has a sweet tooth just like her mommy and daddy!  My parents actually tried to take her to see the Easter Bunny when he was at the Springfield Mall recently but she chickened out at the last minute.  I told her she didn’t have to worry, he would leave her a basket anyway.

She is so helpful around the house that I knew she would love decorating!  Here she is helping me apply the decorations (or, decations, as she calls them) to our front door last weekend.  It was a lot of fun since the door is new and we have never been able to do this before.

She was so excited about her art project!  It was a very thought out process deciding where to put every piece.  Here she is showing off her decorations to her daddy who is outside taking pictures.

Now if I can only keep her from taking them off and playing with them, which has become another joy of hers.

Oh, and on another note, Sam went on the potty again a couple more times!  Only at night though, before bed, and only for me.  Well, it’s progress!

Happy 2-1/2, Samantha!

| March 23, 2012

Sam, today you are 2-1/2 years old.  Happy half year birthday, Samantha! How did the time go so fast?  You are so big now, and so different than the little girl who just had a birthday party.  It amazes me how many things you can do now that you couldn’t do just a few short months ago.  You are so much more fearless now, so willing to try new things.  When we go to the playground you were so scared to go down the slide alone, now you zoom down the big, curly slide and yell, “Whee!!” over and over again.  You climb up the ladders and walls at the playground “all by self” as you like to say, and hardly ever ask me for help.  There are so many things you want to try, and you are so independent.

You insist on trying to zip your sleepsack and your coat alone even though it takes you forever and you still can’t do it, but you won’t let anyone help you.  You like to put on your own shoes and socks and take off your own clothes.  You can easily get your pants and diaper off and even your shirt if we help you get your arms out.  You like to brush your own hair and pick out your own clothes.  You pick out some interesting outfits, but I never care what you pick because you are so proud of what you chose.

You haven’t quite mastered going down stairs alone, you hold the railing like a big girl, but prefer to hold someone’s hand most of the time.  Going up though you race so fast that I always have to make sure I am right behind you in case you fall.

One area I which would grow with you is your appetite since you are still the pickiest little eater I have ever seen.  Your Daddy and I think you grow on air because you don’t eat enough to grow as fast as you are.

You are sleeping in your big girl bed like a champ and hardly ever wake up in the middle of the night unless you have a bad dream.

You talk to me all the time and I am loving finding out everything that has been going on inside your head that you didn’t have the words to express.

I love you so much, Sammy girl.  I am so lucky I get to be your Mommy and love spending all my days with you.  I can’t wait for the summer and all the fun we are going to have at the pool, in our backyard, at the playground, and at the beach.  You have turned out more amazing than I ever could have imagined you to me.  Happy 1/2 birthday, Sam!

Potty time!

| March 22, 2012

My little girl used the potty for the first time last night!  Yay!!  I am so proud of her!  We have been watching her Elmo’s Potty Time video a lot and she seems really into it.  I figure it can’t hurt, even though I really don’t think she is ready to be trained since her diapers are always really, really wet.  But, she has a potty seat and she knows the routine, so I thought, she’ll do it when she is ready but at least we are prepared.  Lately, she has started asking me sometimes if she can sit on the potty.  So, I let her.  Nothing comes of it of course, but I think she likes the idea.  Well, last night, I was trying to put her to bed.  She was all in her jammies and wearing her sleep sack and she kept insisting she wanted to sit on the potty. I really didn’t feel like getting her all undone for nothing, but I don’t want to discourage her either, so I undid all her clothes and took her into the bathroom.  She sat on the potty for a few minutes and really tried.  I know she was trying but nothing was happening.  Then, all of the sudden, success!  She managed to pee in the potty.  I heard it and was shocked, and let me tell ya, she was pretty shocked too.  I was so proud of her that I made sure I made a HUGE deal out of it.  I hugged her and told her over and over how wonderful it was.  She was grinning from ear to ear.  She wanted to go right downstairs and tell Daddy.  Mark was out walking so we called him on his cell phone and I said, Sam, tell Daddy what you did, and she yelled into the phone, “I peed on potty!!”  So Mark made a huge fuss too and told her he would be right home.  Next, Sam insisted we call Grandmom and tell her too.  It was such a big moment for my girl.  She is growing up so fast. I still don’t know that she will be ditching the diapers anytime soon, but still, whoo hoo!  Way to go Sam!  My big girl.  I am so proud of you!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

| March 17, 2012

This St. Patrick’s Day we took Samantha to the Springfield St. Patrick’s  Day Parade.  As you can see, she was all decked out in her green for the holiday.  It was a long day, and Sam got so incredibly tired after about two hours that we didn’t get to see a lot of the parade, but what she saw, she liked.  Here she is looking a bit bemused by the bagpipers.

There was Irish dancing and a lot of music and Sam was clapping along with the crowd.

There were so many times when she was just entranced by whatever was going on.  We were never big parade goers before, but now that we have Sam, and because Springfield has so many parades that Sam enjoys, I think we will be regulars from now on!  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Didn’t know I was raising a tree hugger!

| March 16, 2012

Sam was out with her Daddy digging for worms (yeah, I don’t get it either, but the kid loves worms) and they took a break for a photo op.  This is the same tree she was in 2 Halloweens ago when she was dressed as a bear.  She is so big now!  And so incredibly beautiful.
