An early taste of summer

| April 16, 2012

We had such amazing weather in the last few days that we spent a ton of time outside.  Sam was playing with Mark and he got out a chair to sit in.  Somehow, she saw this chair in our shed and not only knew what it was when it was all folded up, but she immediately claimed it as her own.  She calls it “Sammy’s chair”.  I think she looks adorable all ready for the summer in her new hot pink hat.

Sam is pretty good at putting on most shoes and her socks but every time she gets a new pair it is a challenge for her to figure out just how the straps go.  This is the first time she put on these new sandals this year and you can see how hard she is concentrating on getting it right.

Yes, success!

Mark thinks in this picture she looks so grown up because the look on her face and her pose just says, “oh, come on dad! no more photos!”

On one of my days home with Sam it hit close to 90 degrees so after about an hour at the playground (where I thought we would both melt) I took her home but she still wanted to go outside.  I asked her if she wanted to go in her pool and she couldn’t wait!  I was curious to see how she would do because last year, for some reason, she wouldn’t actually get in, she just liked to stand outside of it and splash around.  This time she climbed right in even though I am sure the water from the hose was freezing (actually, I know it was because I stuck my feet in).  She was funny — I asked her if I could put my feet in and she yelled, “No, too big!” but she gave in and let me get wet.

She kept climbing in and out and sat with me in her chair to have a snack.  I love this — my little bathing beauty.  I can just imagine her at the pool this summer.  She will be hanging out like such a big girl.

My technical genius

| April 16, 2012

Sam has been a whiz at using my iPhone for a while now so it was no surprise that she liked the iPad just as much.  Here she is scoping it out and learning which apps might be on there that she can enjoy. I swear, she had it figured out before I did!  I couldn’t believe how quickly she knew how to go from one screen to the next to explore.  It is really hard to believe how different her life will be than mine and Mark’s.  We grew up in a world without computers, cell phones, heck, even remote controls for the TV, much less any other technology!  Today, when a toddler can use a computer better than some adults, it says something for how learning has changed.

Enjoying the first glimpses of spring

Sam was outside playing the other day and fell down trying to kick her ball. Thankfully, she was on the grass and she wasn’t hurt at all. Actually, she laughed which we were happy about. She is getting past that stage where every stumble is a cause for tears. After that, she kept fake falling down and giggling. She looked so cute all sprawled out in the grass that Mark took a few pictures.

Family Photos

| April 9, 2012

Here are some family photos taken right before we went out to dinner on Easter.

Sam  is hugging the many, many “squishies” that Grandmom and Poppy brought over.  I don’t even know how to describe these little things, but they squish, hence the name, and she loves them.

With Mommy and Daddy all dressed up for the night.

Sam found it great fun to jump off of our lawn and onto the sidewalk.  She did it a million times.  You would have thought she was jumping off a mountain for how much fun she was having.  We love this picture of her, her little feet off the ground, hair blowing in the wind.  She is just being a kid, and I love it.

Oh, and one final awesome note – I have been trying to teach her the name of our street for a long time now, since way before she could even talk. I always say as we are driving home, “ok, Sam, here we are, A*** Road, that’s where we live” and I try to get her to repeat it. She has had a hard time pronouncing it much less remembering it.  Anyway, she has gotten a lot better at saying it lately.  On the way home from dinner with my parents Mark said, “we’re home, Sam, this is our street” and I asked her what street we live on and she said it!  Clear as a bell and immediately.  We were all so shocked and so proud of her.  (By the way, I am not saying the name of our street, because, well, it is the Internet and you just never know, hence my cryptic note here….)

The Movie Star

The paparazzi (that is, Daddy), snapped these photos of our movie star daughter on Easter afternoon.  She loves her shades!
