When Sam wakes up in the morning she is generally ready to go with a vengeance, but some mornings, not so much. With her hair getting longer and longer, she is looking more rumpled in the mornings. Here are some super cute pictures Mark took recently.
I think even Sam was sorry she woke up so early. This was just a little before 9:00 a.m. but I guarantee she was up a heck of a lot earlier. I hope there is just water in that cup because my little angel looks hungover!
There’s my smile! Now that’s the girl I know and love.
Sweetie pie, your little face is the best thing to wake up to, even if it is the crack of dawn sometimes.

Today we celebrated our little Zephyr cat’s 14th birthday. We always have made a big fuss over her every year since the very first one, and just because we have Sam now, things have not changed. Zephyr still has her little party with her favorite cake, angel food. Of course, now, it is Sam helping Zephyr open her presents instead of us. Yup, some people may call us crazy, but we love our little cat. She was our first little girl, you know!
Here is Sam helping Zephyr open her gifts.
Hmmm…a new laser beam!
This was the present that Sam picked out for Zephyr at PetSmart, a catnip stuffed carrot. I think Sam was more into the fact that it was orange that whether Zephyr would actually like it, but since I thought Zephyr would, I let her get it. And Zephyr does seem to like it!
Moving on to the cake! Sam helped Zephyr blow out the candles because, well, cats aren’t so good at that after all.
Happy, happy birthday, Zephyr! We all love you!

For some reason, Sam is really fascinated with jump ropes. We can’t figure out why because it’s not like I have a jump rope around the house that she sees! We figure, of course, that like most things, she probably saw it on television. To satisfy her endless curiosity, Mark bought her one recently. She can’t quite get it yet, understandably, but she tries. Mostly, Sam’s tries involve holding the rope in front of her and jumping up and down. But she very proudly says, “I jumping rope!”, so there you go. Here she is trying and trying to master her new skill.
She always keeps her eyes closed when she jumps. I think she is afraid of the rope hitting her in the face.
My happy little girl. 🙂

While we were on vacation, Mark bought Sam some candy necklaces. I used to love them when I was a kid and he thought Sam would like them too. She came home with a bunch and was proudly wearing them around. Mark took these adorable pictures of her with her new bling.
Here is another picture of Sam, without candy necklace, where I just thought she looked too pretty to not share.

Although Mark and I are not exactly sports fans, we do indulge Sam’s love of sports, and balls, and other athletic pursuits. She loves throwing a ball, kicking her soccer ball, and playing with her mini golf clubs. She even has a mini basketball and a football. We think someday Sam will do something athletic and that’s ok with us. We have been saying for a while that we think she would love gymnastics since she loves to tumble all around and jump and bounce so, now that the summer Olympics have started, it seemed like a great opportunity to show her some real gymnasts.
The first event she saw was women’s synchronized diving. I was surprised to see how into it she was. Every time the divers hit the water, she would clap furiously for them (probably in reaction to everyone on TV clapping, but it was super cute). But the best part was letting her watch the gymnastics. She loved all of it — the floor exercises, the uneven bars, and the balance beam. She seemed so thrilled with all the jumping. Mark had the brilliant idea of grabbing an old 2 x 4 and setting it up in our family room so Sam could practice on her very own balance beam. She did so well! Sam was so proud of herself. Now every day Sam asks us to put down her “bouncing beam” so she can do “nimnastics”. Here is our future gold medalist!
Arms out – balance, balance!
After Sam tried, it was panda’s turn. Maybe he’ll win the silver. 🙂
