My Birthday

| September 16, 2012

I have never been a big fan of my birthday but since having Sam, they have become a bit easier to bear.  I think when I was younger, I didn’t really like them because I hate being the center of attention.  As I got older, well, birthdays just become a reminder of how old I am getting.  And all those years waiting to have a baby made it even worse.  Once I had Sam though, I found it easier to focus on how lucky I am to spend my birthday celebrating with my little girl than on how old I am, how much grey is showing up in my hair, and how my knees hurt.  Ugh.  She makes it impossible to focus on being old because she makes you “be” young to keep up with her limitless pool of energy.  I really am very lucky.  I have so much to be thankful for.  I have my wonderful family, my husband, my child, my parents, Mark’s family which I am proud to now say is my family, so many people to love.

Sam has become quite the expert at making cards for everyone.  She loves to decorate with her crayons and especially her stickers.  She is showing off the not one, but three cards, she made for me (with Daddy’s help).

Sam got me a bag for my bicycle.  It is orange, of course!

My big present from Mark was a new watch. I have been wanting a “big” one instead of the smallish size I wear now.  Sam had to help open all my gifts.  She is always so excited to open presents, even if they are not for her.

As our anniversary was only a few days later, I decided to give Mark his gifts to open. Sam was having such a good time after all offering her assistance!

My two favorite people in the world. 🙂

Later that day, we went to my parents’ house for dinner.  Sam made me another card and I got a new business card holder and a dress from my mom along with a few belts, one of which Sam picked out (with a leopard print, no less…)

That’s my girl!

Cake!  My little one certainly has her great-grandma’s ability to consume sweets.  She is so excited about the cake.  Didn’t eat a bite of dinner of course, but there is always room for cake.

The best part of getting older — I got my daughter.

I love this face.  She looks like she is saying, “When are these pictures done?  I want cake!”

The next day, we went out to dinner with the Myers and Burke families to continue celebrating. I thought Maddox looked like he needed a good tickle.

Keeping little hands out of my cake was a huge effort, but it was worth it to have a lap full of cuteness.

Sam can’t believe we are having ANOTHER CAKE.

These two are so darn cute together.  I wish they could spend more time together, but now that the Burke’s are moving a little closer, hopefully they can.

Thank you everyone for answering all my birthday wishes for a wonderful day!
