Sugar Lip Sammy!

| February 28, 2013

Sam really loves those little powdered sugar donuts. She asks for them all the time and, frankly, they are darn good so we tend to have them in the house a lot. She is so funny when she eats them though because she shoves so much donut in her mouth at one time it is like she is afraid we are going to grab it out of her hand. She always winds up with powdered sugar all over her mouth. The other morning, I jokingly started calling her “Sugar Lip Sammy”  and told her it was her blues name. I started singing a silly made up blues song about donuts and dancing her around. The song that went something like this (you have to imagine the blues riff, sadly, that cannot be conveyed in a blog post):

I was eating some donuts

[Da na na na na]

Then they were gone

[Da na na na na]

I went to the store, and I

Got

Some

More

I’m Sugar Lip Sammmmyyyyyyy…

I got some moooorre!

[Da na na na na]

The cutest part was (definitely) not my (not so) amazing ability to create blues songs on the fly, but rather, the fact that after that, Sam kept coming up with lines all by herself. I’d hear her singing in a bluesy way something about “going to the stooore…getting donuuuuuuts”  and I would just crack up. She totally went with it and liked her blues name.

I guess all that music Mark and I keep playing for her is having some influence. She likes her Laurie Berkner kids music CD but she also loves actual adult music just as much, if not more. We keep trying to expose her to more and more artists and it seems to be paying off.  I think at this point, maybe some actual blues would be appropriate though…she can do without her mommy’s really sad attempts at song writing and learn from some real masters. Mark, get on that!

More Potty Progress

| February 17, 2013

So, potty training has been going really well. Sam uses the potty every single time and has not had any accidents at all. Not even close. Lately, she has been fighting me about her “special nighttime diapers”, which are the pull-ups. I keep telling her that she has to wear them because, even though she is a very big girl and uses the potty all day, I don’t know if while she is sleeping she can hold it in. She understands and grudgingly puts them on, often wanting to put her underpants on too, on top of the pull-up. I do think that the pull-ups seem really dry every morning, with a few exceptions, but it is hard to say if they are totally dry or not. I think it’s a little soon in the process to ditch them, so I am making her wear them for a while. Regardless of how many dry pull-ups I see, every once in a while, she has a soaked one, so we are not ready yet. But at least she has the desire to not wear them, and I think that is good. One more sign she is ready to be a big girl.

Then one other thing happened. Last night, Sam slept at my mom’s house because Mark and I had a wedding to attend. My mom told me that she checked the pull-up really well in the morning and it seemed really dry. Then, today, I went grocery shopping, and when I got home Mark told me that Sam disappeared on him and when he went to find her she was in the bathroom sitting on her little potty by herself, pants down, and she had gone potty!  She never did that before. I always have to go with her, pull her pants down, and help her. So she can do it if she needs to, all by herself. One more step in her independence!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

| February 14, 2013

Happy Valentine’s Day to my sweet little valentine, Sammy.  You are truly the light of my life. Daddy and I are so lucky that today, and every day, we get to celebrate how much love we have for you. My beautiful, wonderful girl. We are so lucky.

Making Herself at Home

| February 11, 2013

Last night, Sam completely dismantled our couch. She likes, just like every other kid, to make forts and houses out of blankets and cushions. She was so proud of her creation that I told her I’d take some photos.

It was the perfect place to watch Monsters, Inc. 🙂

She couldn’t resist being silly, as usual!

Sledding

| February 9, 2013

Today, Sam went sledding for the first time.  Do I have pictures of this momentous event?  Nope. Much to my chagrin, I do not. It had snowed overnight and Sam couldn’t wait to get outside to play. It wasn’t a lot of snow, like usual, so if she doesn’t go out right away, she misses it completely. The snow has been melting so quickly. Early in the morning, not long after I got up, Sam was hounding Mark to go outside, so he took her out. They weren’t outside long when Mark poked his head in the door and told me she wanted to go to the sledding hill, which is the huge hill down our block near the library. It is famous in Springfield for being the sledding hill because it is huge and perfectly safe.  The hill is actually sort of in a bowl shape, so the kids sled into the bowl away from traffic and away fr0m any other hazards. I was going to throw my clothes on and follow them but thought Sam would never actually sled, she would drag Mark down there and then chicken out. Well, shame on me for not having more faith in my little girl because they were gone for a long time and she did in fact go down the hill, with Mark, on her orange sled. So, I missed it. 🙁

Next time, Sammy, I promise, Mommy will be right there with you, sledding down the hill and taking pictures of you in your glory!
