Happy Easter!

| March 30, 2013

Happy Easter everyone! This is the dress that Sam picked out all by herself for Easter. I think she looks so amazingly grown up, and so beautiful.

Look at the smile!

Sam has so many expressions. In some, she looks so innocent, like my little baby girl again, and this is one of them.

Sam wanted to go outside to take some pictures, but on the day we took these, it was cold, as you can see.

A sweater! Now that’s better! The smiles are back!

Back inside for one final picture, with our other little girl, Zephyr. Sam loves her kitty so much.

Pictures from Easter morning will be coming soon!

Here comes the Easter Bunny!

| March 28, 2013

Sam has never wanted to see the Easter Bunny. He seems to scare her and frankly, it was never a big deal to me, so I didn’t push it. I am just happy I get great Santa photos now. Last year, she seemed more interested, but at the last minute, totally chickened out. This year, my mom had her at the mall and Sam told her that she wanted to see the Easter Bunny. My mom said she’d take her and surprisingly, Sam was all for it. She waited in line for her turn, and when it was her turn, she walked right up to him and let him pick her up. No big smiles, but she wasn’t scared at all! Great job, Sammy! I am sure you will get the biggest basket of all now!

Tia and Elyse

| March 27, 2013

Mark’s cousins Elyse and Tia came to visit this week. We haven’t seen them in a really long time, since Mark’s Uncle Joe got married in June 2010. Sam wasn’t even a year old. So when they decided to come to visit, we were really excited. We couldn’t wait for them to really get to know Sam and see how wonderful and funny she is. Most of the time, Sam is really shy around new people, so to break the ice, we asked Sam if she would like to show the girls her room. That always works — Sam loves her room so much she can’t resist showing it off to anyone who will come and take a look.

Off we all went and Sam completely opened up. She must have dragged out almost every stuffed animal, every toy, and every book in her room. Here, she is showing Tia one of her favorite pop-up books.

This is her butterfly that plays music and lights up. It was originally a part of her activity mat so she has had it since she was a baby, but she still loves it.

Hungry Hungry Hippos was a priority, since it is her favorite game. Everyone had to get in on the fun! Sam cheats a bit, which Elyse figured out pretty quickly. 🙂

The girls were such good sports.  Sam wanted so badly to do crafts with them and so they let her. I am sure it is not exactly how they wanted to spend their evening, but they jumped right in and played with Sam and crafted with her.

All of the artists hard at work! Sam is checking out everyone’s handiwork.

We asked Sam if she would give Tia a nice hug and she just about strangled her, but that is the kind of hugs Sam gives.

Later, Elyse went in to play with Sam on her own. Every time Mark and I would go in to check on them, Sam would push us away and tell us, “You go in there and talk to [MomMom/PopPop/Mommy/Daddy].”  It was so cute. She didn’t want us anywhere near their games. Sam had such a great time.

Elyse and Sam were putting her little popping bunnies into Easter eggs and letting them pop into the air. Sam was hysterical laughing the whole time.

The next day, everyone gathered at Mark’s parents’ house to just hang out together and visit. It was such a great visit, but much too short. Both Mark and I wish that we lived closer so that Sam could get to know that part of her family better. She bonded with Elyse and Tia so fast. After arriving at the restaurant where we had dinner, Sam wouldn’t even hold my hand in the parking lot, she wanted to hold Elyse’s hand. And she kept referring to the girls as, “my sisters” which I loved. We all can’t wait for Elyse’s wedding in October so we can see everyone again. I just hope after that, we don’t make it too long a wait to see this wonderful part of our family again. Thanks for visiting!

Eek! Scary tiger in the house!

| March 24, 2013

I spent a long time cleaning out/up Sam’s room to prepare for the arrival of Mark’s cousins and in the process of doing so found a bag that had some dress up items in it. Sam was “helping” me clean up and found the bag which had some tiger stuff in it. Immediately, Sam had to put everything on. She couldn’t wait to wear it and then show her Daddy. I think she is the cutest tiger I have ever seen (except for Zephyr, of course!) so we had to take some pictures.

Mark asked her to turn around and show us her tail. I love the pose!

She has orange tiger mittens for winter and those had to be on too, to complete the look! Sam, you couldn’t be more adorable!

Daddy’s Home!

| March 23, 2013

Mark got back from Germany last night and we were both certainly very happy to see him.  Sam had a really hard time understanding where he was and since she has no real concept of time, it was difficult to explain how long he would be gone. It has been a really long time since he went away — she was just about a year old the last time — so she didn’t remember what it was like.  Every single day she’d ask me, “Where’s Daddy” and I’d have to explain that he got on the airplane and went to his other office far, far away. We took him to the airport so she would have some idea that he was going away, but, since she has never seen an airport before, at least not that she remembered, to her, I am sure it was just another building. On the way there, we were trying to explain it to her and we saw an airplane making its ascent near the airport. Mark told Sam he’d be getting on an airplane just like that one and Sam got very quiet in the back seat and then said, “But, Daddy, how will you catch it?”  So cute. She really thought that it was the same airplane he would be taking. Every once in a while, my mom would say something about Daddy being in Germany and she’d get very mad and say, “No! He is on the airplane!”

Now that Mark and I both have a Mac, we were able to have a FaceTime call every day so Sam got to actually see Mark as well as talk to him. That went a long way toward making things easier for her. He showed her his hotel room and outside his window and she found it all very funny.

When Mark finally got back, we had to wait for him to clear customs for almost an hour. Sam was so good at the airport, waiting patiently. She kept looking down the long hallway for him and she would just say once in a while, in a sad little voice, “Daddy is taking a long time….” Eventually, I saw him coming and when I told her  he was there she went running off and just about jumped into his arms. Then she immediately began talking a mile a minute to him. I am sure, after almost a week, she had a lot to say. Mark brought her presents, of course, a toy airplane, a music box that has little rotating ducks, and some Kinder eggs, all of which she is enjoying immensely! Presents help a lot to ease the pain of missing someone, as you all know. I have a feeling travel is back in the works for Mark after a long time, and I am going away soon (which Sam doesn’t know yet….) so she’s going to have to get used to it!
