Carnival

| May 28, 2013

Sam is really into carnivals now. She loves all the lights and the sounds – oh, and let’s not forget all the stuffed animals she wins at the games! And just recently, she actually started liking the rides. Mark and I took her to a local one the other day and let her have some (expensive) fun.

Her first stop was the duck game. Not much of a game, but she loves it just because she gets to pick up a bunch of rubber duckies. She wound up winning this huge inflatable rubber duck.  Oh boy.  Where is that going to live in our house?

The merry go round is always a favorite. Whenever we see one, she has to ride. It is one of my favorites too.

She swore she wanted to ride the dragon, which was really pretty tame and meant for little kids, but she didn’t like it too much when she got on. You can see her sad little face in this picture.

Ok, so that was upsetting for her. On to some games. In this one, you had to shoot water at a target and be the first to make your target rise. She didn’t win, but had fun anyway.

Time for ice cream before going home. I think, by far, that was Sam’s favorite part of the carnival. You can see her gigantic duck now…

One last ride – the train! This was a slow ride that was right up her alley. It is hard to believe that by this time next year, she will be so different and probably willing to go on every fast spinning ride the carnival has. Let’s hope not – Mommy and Daddy aren’t fans of those….

Sam’s new tub

| May 24, 2013

We have been in the middle of a complete bathroom remodel for the last month or so, and I have to say, Sam has been incredibly patient. Our upstairs is a bit of a mess, to say the least, there are strangers in our house every day (who are becoming less like strangers when you see them for weeks at a time) and it is noisy. Mondays and Fridays when we are home have been hard, but she has been great. Every day we take her in to see the demolition and the rebuilding. She finds it as exciting as we do! Thankfully, we have a second shower and two other toilets so the process has not been a huge inconvenience. The hardest part is giving Sam a bath. She won’t shower so my mom has been giving her baths during the week and I go over on the weekend. Well, the tub is finally in – unusable yet, but in. Sam was so thrilled at her new tub she asked me to take her picture with it. So, Sam, here you go!

My Glamour Girl

| May 22, 2013

Sam saw me get my first summer pedicure recently and since then, has been obsessed with having her nails done. I have no objection to it, I just never thought she’d sit still long enough for me to actually paint them, and then the even longer and more tedious process of letting them dry. Well, Grandmom saved the day! Yesterday while at Grandmom’s house, she got her first mani-pedi! She is so proud of her big girl nails, orange, of course.

Here’s a close up.

I can see this is going to be a regular thing – she already has me touching up spots that are just slightly smudged!

Mark’s birthday, part 2

| May 18, 2013

Since we didn’t have Mark’s birthday with his family on Mother’s Day, his actual birthday, we celebrated a bit later.  It was a great opportunity for Sam and Maddox to play together. They are always so cute together.

One of the things Sam finds ever so entertaining is putting all of our couch cushions on the floor and making forts. Well, the fort kind of fell apart, but Sam and Maddox made a nice bed and were having a heck of a chat there, all snuggled on the floor.

Eventually, they stopped playing long enough to sit with the birthday boy! Sam has a slap bracelet around her neck that she suddenly decided was a fine necklace.  She never ceases to amaze me.

Both kids helped open presents, none of which they found particularly exciting. Camera equipment is not to exciting I guess.

Now this box, well, now you’re talking!  Kids….  Well, happy birthday, Mark!

Mother’s Day Celebrating

| May 13, 2013

Mother’s Day is always wonderful, and I couldn’t be a luckier mom, or daughter. I have the most amazing little girl and the best mom anyone could want. I have learned so much about being a parent from my mom and I hope that I can always make her proud. Sam always seems like such a happy little girl, so I must be doing something right.

My Mother’s Day began like every other Sunday, up early with Sam.  But that’s ok. I suppose being a mom and celebrating Mother’s Day should involve spending as much time as possible with the person who made you a mom to begin with! Right after Mark got up, we started the presents! As you could see from Mark’s earlier Happy Mother’s Day post, I got some amazing hand painted bird houses from Sammy girl. I also got a sweater that I love and a necklace with Sam’s picture printed on it.  Beautiful!

Sam was bursting at the seams waiting for me to open my birdhouses! I don’t think I’ve ever seen her so proud of herself.

My girl gives the best, biggest hugs. 🙂 Oh, yeah, and that’s my new sweater she is wearing!

We went to see Mark’s parents for brunch and then Sam got to give her Mom Mom her gift. It was a necklace just like mine, with Sam’s photo on it.  As you can see, it was a hit!

After we got home, I finally got to wear my new sweater, and Sam posed with me for some new pictures.

Dinner with my mom is always on the agenda and so are pictures!

Present time again! Sam was showing Grandmom the card she helped to sign.

An orange purse! Wow!  Now that is Sam’s idea of the perfect present.
