Ahhh…Post Christmas Relaxation

| December 30, 2013

Christmas is always so much fun with Sam, but let’s face it. Whew, it is exhausting! There is so much to do, and so many people to see. We are up early, running around, trying to fit everything in. The days following Christmas are often more enjoyable because they are days off when we can simply “be”. Together, as a family, enjoying the holidays. Here is how we spent our days.

The morning after Christmas, I woke up early with Sam. She immediately wanted to get into her Cinderella dress and then she started playing Lego. I  think this picture is so cute. Our little girly girl playing with her building toys.

As soon as Mark woke up, she had him set up her car track. She had been dying to race cars ever since she opened her gift. Mark told her that they could race down the stairs so, of course, that is what they had to do first. She still had on her Cinderella dress and added her superhero costume on top of it. I think it’s a pretty great combo – a superhero princess. I mean, if she has to be a princess, at least she’s saving herself.

Her car won the last race, as if you couldn’t tell by her excitement.

A few days later, Sam had Mark racing again. This time, she decided to be a tunnel for her cars to go through.

No Cinderella costume, but a tiara….

Sam is going to be so disappointed when we all go back to our routine of work and school. She is having so much fun. Believe me, Sammy, we will all be sad too.

DSC_1173

A gift she was really excited to try was her easel that Mom Mom and Pop Pop got her. She is very artistic and is drawing and painting and crafting all the time. Sam couldn’t wait to dive into the paint.

DSC_1128

Our little artist  busy at work. She kept telling me I wasn’t allowed to look until she was done, but I snuck a few peeks. When Sam paints she gets very intent on what she is doing and she doesn’t really notice what is going on around her.

DSC_1132-2

The finished masterpiece! Sam told us it was a snowman making a snow angel. Pretty good, if I do say so.

DSC_1134-2

And the artist with her work. 🙂 We are so incredibly proud of her.

DSC_1137-2

One of our gifts was matching pajamas. Here we are modeling! Sam even let me put her hair up in a clip just like mine.

DSC_1181

I really do need to cherish these days. Someday, the thought of me wearing clothes that even remotely resemble anything she would wear will make Sam ill. But for now, she thinks it is the coolest thing ever. I hope she doesn’t grow up too fast.

Christmas, Part 3 – To Mom Mom and Pop Pop’s We Go!

| December 27, 2013

We stopped at home before going to the Myers house to check on Zephyr. Sam had some gifts left that she hadn’t opened and she insisted she be allowed to open them all before we left. I told her to be quick and she certainly was! Lightning speed!

DSC_3336

Mark bought her a huge set of paints for crafting. She wanted to do something right then. Um…no. The little pink “balloon” dog in the bottom of the photo was a favorite gift. He got carried around all day.

DSC_3339-2

Zephyr wanted to open her presents too! A little catnip never hurt anyone…

DSC01721

When we got to Mom Mom and Pop Pop’s house, there was some time before gift opening for a quick indoor snowball fight!

DSC_1075

DSC_1077

Look out! I think we all got hammered a bunch of times….

DSC_1078

Mom Mom and Pop Pop loved the present Sam gave them, an ornament with all five of her Christmas photos on it, with dates on each one. She gave one to Grandmom and Poppy too. Who wouldn’t love that little face on their tree?

DSC_1068-2

Sam loved her dress up Hello Kitty…

DSC_1071

…her dress up magnetic dolls, and her easel…

DSC_1089-2

…and said Thank You quite sweetly.

DSC_1103

Sam helped Maddox inspect his new wooden pocket knife that she and Mark made for him. She has one just like it so she is quite the expert.

DSC_1097

When we got home after visiting, Zephyr was waiting under the tree, as usual.

DSC_1108

We had a nice dinner with Grandmom, Poppy, Aunt Krista, Uncle Adam and Maddox then were treated to an amazing sunset. It was a great way to end the day!

Christmas Morning, Part 2 – Off to Grandmom and Poppy’s House!

| December 27, 2013

Next stop after home is always Grandmom and Poppy’s house. When there are oodles of presents to open, you have to get an early start!

DSC_1016

Sam was super ready to open more gifts! She has been looking at her pile of princess-wrapped presents for weeks.

DSC_1022

Once again, her stocking drew her interest before half of her gifts.

DSC_1029

Grandmom gets a smooch for making her a new photo book from our vacation photos this past summer. You can see some of her gifts, a Cinderella, complete with mice, and the Lalaloopsy she has been waiting for, in the background. This was the first year Sam got Barbie dolls and clothes too.

DSC_1041

Sam helped Poppy open his gift from her, a picture of them together that she drew.

DSC_1059

We always have to include the kitties in the celebrations! Blackie was no exception. He is always good for a cuddle.

DSC_1032

Bella is harder to hug, but at least she hung out with us. Those crazy cats – why do they all love the paper and boxes?

DSC_1047

Next stop, home again to feed Zephyr cat then off to see Mom Mom and Pop Pop!

Christmas Day 2013, Part 1 – Morning Craziness

| December 27, 2013

I can’t believe we have had five Christmas mornings with Sam. It seems impossible that so much time has gone by, but at the same time, I can hardly remember what that first Christmas was like, when she was just three months old. I am sure she had no idea what was going on, that presents were under the tree for her, or that Santa came, but she sure understands all that now!

I was sure this year that Sam would sneak down the stairs and peek at the tree, but just like always, she was snuggled up in bed with us. One day, she will be bouncing up and down at some ungodly hour, but not yet, not this year. Once we did wake up, it was nearly impossible to keep her from looking downstairs until we were all ready to go. I managed to keep her upstairs though while Mark went down to feed Zephyr, turn on the tree lights, and grab his camera. Here we go! Sam was more than ready, Gingerbread Man, Robot, and Boo Boo in tow.

DSC_0927

Wow! What did Santa bring?

DSC_0929

DSC_0931-2

The first thing Sam really went for were the new stuffed toys Santa left. Gingerbread Man got a Gingerbread Girl so he wasn’t lonely. She also got a Tree and a Candy Cane. The Gingerbread people were so happy to see each other they hugged.

One of the only things Sam asked for this year were Legos. She got her first big girl set!

DSC_0943

Talking Tom was a big hit. She loves the app on my iPhone and now she has an actual stuffed one who will repeat what she says. It’s pretty funny.

DSC_0946

I helped her unwrap the special gift I got her. When I was in Chicago earlier this year I had bought her some authentic Russian nesting dolls that looked like cats. I bought her another set of women, a bigger set, for Christmas. She was very surprised!

DSC_0952

DSC_0956

My gift from Sam this year was this adorable family of frogs. Mark helped her pick it out. When they were looking for a family sculpture, Sam saw this one and insisted it was the perfect one. I agree, Sam!

DSC_0965

More Legos! This one was the bakery she saw in the Lego catalog. Sam really wanted the set because it has a tiny little pretzel.

DSC_0967

Halfway through gift opening, Sam wanted everyone to open their stockings. I love stockings, but usually Sam doesn’t show much interest. We always wait until all the presents are opened before doing stockings, but this year, she couldn’t wait until the end!

DSC_0971

When she opened this surprise from Santa, I thought her eyes were going to pop! She couldn’t wait to dress up like Cinderella immediately. Her Cinderella transformation is complete from tiara, to gloves, to the tip of her tiny glass slippers!

DSC_0979-2

DSC_0982

Mark’s gift to Sam this year was a drawing she made that I framed for her. I asked her to draw a picture of her and her daddy doing something they like. She drew them with the Christmas tree.

DSC_0986

Zephyr had to get in on the fun too — Merry Christmas Zephyr!

DSC_0989

Sam and Mark had fun looking through the Lego Mini Figures encyclopedia. The little people are one of Sam’s favorite parts so I know they will love looking up everyone she has (and doesn’t have but I am sure will want…)

DSC_0994

DSC_0995

Santa brought us matching pajamas which Sam and I were very excited about. We haven’t had matching jammies in a long time!

DSC_0999

Santa didn’t forget the new suitcases for Daddy’s cars – he always comes through!

DSC_1001

Here is Sam on her big present from Mommy and Daddy — her new bike!

DSC_1011

Poor Talking Tom — Sam made him dress up in the matching Cinderella costume Santa brought for one of her dolls or bears. He does look ready for the ball though. 😉

Presents!

| December 26, 2013

Just a quick sneak peek at the presents under the tree. We snapped these photos after Santa came. We couldn’t wait for Sammy to see!
