Christmas Eve Merriment

| December 26, 2013

This Christmas Eve was so much fun at our house. Sam was near to bursting waiting for Santa to arrive. All day long she kept talking about how Santa was going to come that night and leave presents. We tried to keep her busy but it was hard. One of the things that keeps Sam occupied is looking at, and playing with, all of our many decorations. She really loves our nativity scene, which was my grandfather’s. It means a lot to me and I let her look at it, but not play with it because I am so afraid she will break something. But it doesn’t stop her from looking, and yes, sometimes touching.

I was in the family room early in the day and Sam called me in to the living room to see what she had done. I found her Cinderella doll with a pipe cleaner in her hand. I told Sam it looked just like a shepherd’s hook. She told me, yes, it was, and she ran into the nativity to show me who it was supposed to be. She then set about making her own nativity scene from her toys. She worked so hard, running back and forth between rooms to see which people and animals she was missing.

Here is my grandfather’s nativity…

…and Sam’s own version. Merida is Mary, the large cat is Joseph, the little cat is Jesus, the little orange pom pom figure is a camel. Cinderella as mentioned, is a shepherd and Peppa Pig is a wise man. The other animals she chose are, well…animals.  A horse or two, a sheep, a donkey. Finally, she added her star and an angel. I thought using the barn was a nice touch as well. I was very proud of her and how hard she worked to get the scene just right.

Mark took some pictures of Sam, who insisted on wearing her tiara, to pass even more time. So pretty!

Eventually, it got to be night. My parents were expected to arrive shortly, so we set up the camera in hopes of grabbing our annual family portraits in front of our tree. Success!

She always has time for Mommy hugs though.

Let’s get this Christmas theme rolling! Hats everyone! Even Zephyr got decked out for the holiday. She wasn’t happy about it, of course, but at least we have a true family photo!

The more Zephyr wiggled to get away, the harder Sam laughed. It made for a good picture though!

Sam’s Grandmom and Poppy showed up and we got some more pics before Sam was worn out from all the posing.

We lit a fire because it seemed the warm and cozy thing to do on Christmas Eve.

Sam wanted no part of going to bed. She will still sticking with her plan to stay up and hide behind the green chair to peek at Santa. Mark told her that Santa sends the reindeer to spy and see if she is asleep, and if she hears jingle bells, that means the reindeer are close by. Well, sure enough, there were jingle bells outside and Sam couldn’t drag me up the steps fast enough to get her pajamas on. She wasn’t taking any chances!

Once she was ready for bed, we got the cookies, cucumbers and milk ready for Santa, and the carrots for the reindeer, one for each of them. Yup. You read that right. Cucumbers. Sam is concerned that Santa have healthy snacks while he is traveling.

She put everything right by the door so he wouldn’t miss it.

Off to bed Sammy! Santa is coming! She went out like a light, in I think 10 minutes flat by around 8:15. One of the fastest bedtimes ever. Sleep tight!

Our Christmas Home

| December 24, 2013

Here are some pictures of our house this Christmas. We added the reindeer this year, which Sam was super excited about. They used to belong to my parents, but since they were tired of dragging them around the house every Christmas from storage, they now graze in our yard!

I think this is the most lit up our house has ever been. I am pretty happy with our festiveness.

We and our neighbors, Joe and Debbie, had the most lights and decorations on our block. It looked really great coming up the street seeing the brightness.

Happy…I mean, MERRY Christmas!

| December 24, 2013

Oops. We have been watching the Peppa Pig holiday episodes with Sam quite a lot lately, and those Brits do say Happy instead of Merry. 🙂

This Christmastime has been so wonderful with Samantha. She is so excited, so filled with wonder and joy. We have been crafting, and baking, and counting down our days on the Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar and on Sam’s own paper calendar. We wrapped, we sang, we decorated, we visited Santa, and we saw the lights and now we are ready. Christmas Eve is here and Santa is on his way.

Sam keeps asking me what I want Santa to bring me. My answer to her is always the same, and one she doesn’t quite approve of (mostly because it doesn’t seem like a true gift to her, I would imagine). My Christmas wish, my best Christmas present, is for my beautiful, amazing daughter to be happy. We love you, Samantha!

Our little spy

| December 24, 2013

I just reminded Sam that today is Christmas Eve. She told me she is going to stay up all night to see Santa. Her plan:

“Let me tell you how we are going to do it, Mommy. First, I will sneak down the stairs and tell you if it’s clear or not clear. If it’s clear, then you can come down and we can hide behind the green chair to see Santa. But you can’t talk to me, not even a little bit, because Santa might hear us and look behind the chair.”

That’s the plan. Operation See Santa. Hopefully, she will be too exhausted to see this plan through and will crash pretty quickly. I am wondering if this year will be the first that she actually sneaks downstairs in the morning to see if Santa came. I hope so. I actually would love to have her come bounding into our room screaming with excitement. That’s what Christmas morning is all about anyway, right? Children screaming with joy. I waited a long time for that and will gladly wake up early to hear it.

Waiting for Christmas

| December 24, 2013

Mark and I are both lucky enough to have quite a bit of time off around the holidays. Since Sam is not in school right now (she has an almost three week break), and Mark got his new camera, there have been quite a few photo sessions in the Myers house. Here are the results!

These were taken not long after we put up our tree. Sam was so excited that our house finally was starting to feel like Christmas!

I’m not quite sure where this pose came from, laying her head on her hands like that, but she has been doing it a lot for photos recently. It looks cute, so no one is complaining.

I can’t wait to spend Christmas with that adorable face!

DSC_0140-2

We have been building quite a few fires recently. It has been really nice. I don’t know why we never did this before. Sam usually plays quietly in front of the fire, usually with Mark. Legos are her game of choice most days.

We can’t forget Mark’s original model, Zephyr. We love our beautiful furry girl as much as ever!

Mark seems to take a lot of pictures of Sammy in her pajamas. She always looks so cute, and so little.

I love this face. It’s the annoyed face we will be seeing a lot when she is a teenager!

What did I say about her looking so little? Yeah, scratch that. She looks so grown up sometimes, it scares me.
