Gingerbread Construction

| December 22, 2013

It’s gingerbread time again! I had the house hidden away because I knew Sam would want to build it the minute she saw it. When I finally took it out of the bag and put it on the table, yup, I was right. She wanted to build it immediately! She was pretty patient this year when I told her we had to build the house then let it dry for a few hours or it would fall apart. Of course, by patient, I mean asking me every 15 minutes starting 5 minutes after I built it….

Ready to go!

Usually, I handle the frosting bag and Sam handles the decorating. And eating. Let’s not forget the eating of all the candies that are supposed to go on the house. I’m not pointing any fingers or anything, but the candy culprit has orange hair. Not brown. With a lot of grey in it. Orange.

Mark always helps too and this year was no different. Mark and Sam love to build things together, and that includes cookie houses.

Eventually, just like last year, Sam decides she wants to handle frosting duty. She is pretty good!

Ta Da! All done. We are pretty proud of our accomplishment. Now we need to find some gingerbread men to move in!

Sam and Maddox

| December 21, 2013

We had the chance to have a pre-Christmas visit with Mark’s sister Krista and her family. Sam always loves getting together with them. She can’t wait to see Krista, Adam and Maddox any chance she gets. The kids are so good together that we really have to make an effort to have them visit more often. Here are the two cutie pies.

My nurse has an ulterior motive

| December 20, 2013

I am starting to feel sick again like a cold is looming. As I was putting Sam to bed last night, I said something about how I was getting sick and I don’t want to be sick for Christmas. Sam told me, “Don’t worry, Mommy. If you are sick on Christmas, I will sit on your lap and hug you SO TIGHT, and give you kisses, and if your nose is running or you sneeze I will bring you tissues, and I will open ALL of your presents for you.”

Uh huh. I’d better look out. She’ll be coughing on me on purpose so that she has more gifts to open. Not a chance, Sammy! I would have to be bedridden before I’d forfeit present opening!

Christmas Lights

| December 19, 2013

Since I have been feeling a bit on the sick side, Mark took Sam out to see some Christmas lights in our neighborhood. It is a good distraction for her, and a small break for me. There is a house only a few blocks away that always has nice holiday displays. Here are just a few cute pictures from their stroll.

More snow!

| December 18, 2013

Sam certainly got her wish this year, at least so far. We got even more snow! First we got 8″ dumped on us, then quickly after, another 4″. She couldn’t wait to go out and play. This time though, the snow was a bit wet and perfect for snowman building.

Here Sam is making some adjustments to her new snowman that she and her Daddy built in our front yard. It’s funny, I was out at the supermarket just picking up one or two things and suddenly I thought, “Sam and Mark are going to have a snowman built and Sam is going to be looking for a carrot nose.” I bought some and sure enough, I was barely out of the car and Sam came running over to ask me if I had a carrot. She was so excited when I gave her one right out of the car.

She always talks to her snowmen which I find incredibly cute. They have whole conversations about all kinds of things.

I love her face in this one. She looks so full of mischief, just like a 4 year old should. I wonder what she and Mr. Snowman were plotting?

A hug for her new friend. 🙂

Here he is, all gussied up in his finest snowman attire.

It didn’t take more than a few days for the temperature to warm up a bit and that, combined with the sun we get in our front yard, started to melt the snow. Sam wanted to hang out with her snowman again for a little while. She gave him a big kiss to say hello.

One more hug for the big guy. Thankfully, she is ok with him melting. She knows he’ll be back again soon.

Hmmm…what happened to his other eye? I guess it’s true what the “Snowmen at Night” book she reads says, snowmen have their own adventures at night and that is why they sometimes look a little askew the next morning.

One last picture in the snow of our happy, but chilly, little girl!
