Hi, Easter Bunny!

| March 29, 2014

Yesterday Sam went to visit the Easter Bunny. He doesn’t quite rank as high as Santa in her book, but he comes close. The other day, Sam and my mom were at Springfield Mall and she saw his whole set up ready for picture taking, but the Easter Bunny wasn’t there yet and wouldn’t be until the following weekend. Last night, we decided to go to King of Prussia Mall after picking her up at school and, lo and behold, he was at the Court at King of Prussia.  Sam was so excited! She peered down at him through the railing and couldn’t get down that escalator fast enough. She seems to think that visiting the Easter Bunny is like seeing Santa, but we keep telling her you don’t get to tell the Easter Bunny what you want in your basket! She likes seeing the Easter Bunny, but she doesn’t understand why he doesn’t talk. I told that her bunnies don’t talk, right? So the Easter Bunny doesn’t talk either. I think this picture is so cute. She looks so happy to be there.

Every year the Easter Bunny hides her basket so she has to look for it on Easter morning. She has been wondering and wondering where it will be this year for weeks. I liked Easter when I was a kid, but I think Sam has me beat. She is acting like it will be Christmas morning!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Here is a quick pic of Sam all ready to head to school on Saint Patrick’s Day today. Hard to believe but, yes, it snowed. Again! Geez, it’s March 17, you’d think Mother Nature would get the hint that it’s time to let up and let spring, well…spring! But Sam didn’t let it get her down. We played in the snow this morning, then got all decked out for school in her holiday finest.  Happy Saint Patty’s Day!

Mrs. Daddy

| March 14, 2014

Well, I guess the marriage proposal Sam got from Franny at school didn’t mean a whole lot to her. She has moved on to bigger and better men. We were talking about weddings the other day and dresses and I said something to Sam about her own wedding. She told me, in no uncertain terms, that at her wedding, she is ONLY going to dance with her Daddy. She also told me I could be in the audience. Very nice of her. The subject came up again about weddings and she said the same thing about dancing so I asked her this time, “Sam, who are you going to marry?” She looked at me like I was crazy and gave me an unequivocal answer:  “Daddy!”

I know it’s pretty common for little girls to want to marry their Daddy and I think it is adorable that she reached this stage. She loves her Daddy so very much. I wish she knew how lucky she really is to have him. And I fervently hope that whoever she decides to marry, he is half the man that Mark is. And that he loves her half as much as Mark loves Sam. I know that when the time comes Mark and I will both have a strong opinion about any man who wants to be with our precious daughter. And I hope that our opinions will be positive because Sam makes good choices and chooses men who respect her, who love her, who see her value, her intelligence, all she has to offer. I don’t want to have to steer her away from bad men who are not good for her. I don’t want to be in a position opposite her when it comes to her relationships. I put my own parents in that position and I am sorry for that. I want to be supportive and happy for her and to be proud of her choices.

Sam, look for a man just like your Daddy. You’ll never go wrong, little girl. Never.

Here comes the bride…

Sam was getting ready to go to her friend Julia’s house a few days ago and I was upstairs getting myself ready to go. When I came down, Mark told Sam, “Tell Mommy what you just told me.” She got a bit shy, and Mark explained that he was talking to Sam about how lucky she was to have such a good friend in Julia and then asked her about her other friends at school. He was naming a bunch of the girls and Sam was saying whether or not she plays with them. Then Mark said, “What about the boys?” Mark asked Sam to tell me what her response was and Sam told me … wait for it ….

“One of the boys at school asked me to marry him.”

Um. What?!

After my mind stopped whirling I asked her what she said when he asked her, and she smiled and said, “I just laughed.” I told her that was an excellent reply. When we had this conversation she said she couldn’t remember which boy it was but she later revealed it was Franny.  Mmm hmmm.  Franny. You better watch it Franny, my boy! We are watching you! 🙂
