My best pal

Today, Sam and I made a quick stop at Michael’s to look for a mat for a photo. While we were there, Sam did her usual scan of the floor near the floral department, looking for stray silk flowers and leaves that fell to the floor. She likes to collect her “treasures”. I knew she picked up a few things when I saw her bend down, but didn’t really pay much attention. We were leaving the store walking across the parking lot and she told me she collected a few things. I asked her what she had and she showed me her leaf and then said, “I got a daisy too” and I made a big fuss telling her it was my favorite flower to which she responded, “I know, Mommy. I know it is your favorite!” like I was crazy to think she didn’t know this. I have mentioned it a bunch of times to her when these kinds of things come up, but she really did remember it was my favorite and apparently, was a bit offended that I would think she forgot. I was pretty touched.

A few times recently, we have talked about her getting older, and getting a job and getting married. She tells me time and time again that she doesn’t want to get any job — she just wants to be Mommy’s helper. I joke that it is very nice of her but that particular job won’t pay very well, but really, it is adorable. Her only goal in life at this point is being helpful to me. She asked me today if she could dust things, and she did, pretty well too. The other day she “washed” some dishes. If only she would be so willing to help me when she is say, 12. Well, we’ll see. Maybe. I can dream!
