Oh, Sam, I hope you never, ever change!

We went to the mall tonight and while Mark was shopping I took Sam into the shoe store. We didn’t really need anything, it was just someplace to go to kill time. Sam was bored and wanted to try on a pair of super sparkly, sequined sandals (that were totally something she would pick). They were kid size, not toddler size, and I tried to explain to her that these shoes were a size 12, and she is a size 9, and that they were three sizes too big for her. She tried to convince me that we could buy them now, so that when she was big enough to wear them, we would have them. And I made a comment about how, yeah, that would be great, I’ll buy them now and buy the time she is big enough she won’t like them anymore. To which she replied, very exasperated:

“Mom! I’ll still be the same person when I get big, you know!”

Oh, Sam. I hope that is true. I hope when you are older, and bigger, that you are still the same funny, original, stylish, amazing girl that you are right this minute. I will be proud to have that girl as my daughter, just like I am now. Please don’t change. Not one single thing. You are simply perfect.
