She’s ready for the Louvre!

| May 8, 2014

Sam has been making things for her school’s annual art show for months. She has been talking about it non-stop, but wouldn’t clue us in to anything she was making. It is a very big deal at the school. So big that they close the school that day to get ready and set up. It is held in the evening and everyone, even extended family, are invited to see all of the work the kids have been doing the year through. As it got closer, Sam got more and more excited. We told her we couldn’t wait to go. Last night was the show so we walked over to the school and Sam skipped the whole way.

We stopped to take a few photos with Grandmom and Pop Pop before we went in. (Poppy wasn’t feeling well so he had to stay home, but we had a private showing for him at our house on Mother’s Day!) We all thought it was so funny that Sam and Grandmom had matching shirts!

Our first stop was upstairs in her classroom. Sam made this beautiful sculpture of a butterfly.

And this other butterfly that was hanging from the sky!

I especially loved the flowers she painted. She said she picked the colors herself. Not surprisingly, she made an orange vase.

When we eventually made it downstairs to the common area where most of the art was, it took us a while but we managed to find Sam’s “self portrait” of sorts. All the kids made these little people. The shirt “Sam” is wearing was one of her favorites this winter. I think it is a magnificent likeness! Fittingly, the little girl next to Sam, on the right, is her friend Julia.

Here you can see what Sam wanted everyone to know about her.

Almost the minute we walked into the school, Sam spied Julia and the two of them were inseparable. We pretty much viewed the art show by following them around. Here are me and Sam with Julia and her mom, Mina.

Sam’s picture of an ant was nearby her portrait. Each kid made their own bug and Sam picked an ant.

Their teacher read them Put Me in the Zoo and then they made their own little dog from the story. So cute!

One of my favorite crafts was Sam’s pine cone owl. The artist is posing with her creation, which is right to the left.

Sam is very creative. She is always making things at home, drawing, and coming up with her own little creations. Seeing how her mind works and watching her try to put it down on paper, or with her pipe cleaners, stickers, or other materials is really amazing. I love seeing what she will come up with next. Seeing all her art displayed at school, and being surprised by what we saw, was a real treat. We were so proud of Sam and all the fine art she made. She couldn’t wait to share it with us, and her whole family. But better than seeing the art, was seeing the pride on Sam’s face. We are so proud of her, of course, but it is wonderful to see her pride in herself and her accomplishments. Great job, Sam!
