An apple a day!

Well, it won’t keep the doctor away in this case, since Sam had her annual checkup today. She was just fine, as usual. Still growing strong and perfectly. She was just one ounce shy of being 36 lbs. and is 42 inches tall. She is still a string bean, being in the 22nd percentile for weight and 41st percentile for height. Her BMI is in the 21st percentile. The doctor was happy with her progress. He showed me her growth charts from the time she was a baby and she is moving along exactly the way she should be.

We did spend a bit of time discussing her eating issues (basically, the fact that she eats next to nothing, won’t try new foods, etc.) and how I am worried about her health, aside from just being sick of trying to feed her all the time when her food choices are so limited. He gave me the name of a behavioral health person at CHOP who specializes in kids with food disorders and threw it out there as something I could try, if I am truly at my wits end. He didn’t seem to think she should go or anything, but he could tell I was a bit upset by the whole mealtime process.

Sam’s blood pressure and all her other vital stats were great and she had another eye test. Her vision was a bit less perfect than last year, but the nurse said it is to be expected at this age because their vision normally goes off a little. We talked about how Mark and I hope she has good vision but feel she is doomed since both of us had glasses at such an early age and the nurse told me if her vision is going to improve  and bounce back it would do so in the next year or year and a half. If it does not, she is likely on the way to needing glasses at some point. Well, at least Sam looks cute in glasses and seems to like them! I have a feeling they are in her future.

We wrapped up the visit with a couple of shots and a flu vaccine. She had the FluMist nasal spray for her flu vaccine and I think she would have preferred to get stuck with the needle! She didn’t like that at all. Not that I blame her. Sam left with stickers in hand, and healthy as could be. And that’s really all I can ask for. A healthy, happy girl. There are so many sad stories about terribly sick kids. Mark and I are so lucky and believe me, we know it.
