Dinosaurs!

| January 3, 2015

Mark and I wanted to take Sam somewhere fun on our break so we decided on the Academy of Natural Sciences (or, as everyone calls it, the dinosaur museum, because let’s face it, nothing else matters!) Sam really didn’t know what to expect. As soon as we got there, from the ticket counter, you can see the dino bones on display. The T-Rex is prominently displayed up front because he is the most recognizable I suppose. We asked Sam what she thought of all the skeletons and she said she didn’t expect the dinosaurs to be so big! I guess it’s hard to imagine the scale without seeing them for real.

After all the bones, there was a green screen room where you could pretend to be in dinosaur land. Mark and Sam jumped right in! Eek, look out!

The tried not to get chomped by a dinosaur but Sam didn’t look scared one bit. Look at those teeth!

There is a cute area for kids where you can dig for fossils. They give the kids tools and let them loose. Sam dove right in seeing if she could find anything interesting.

My little paleontologist. 🙂

She used one of the brushes to uncover a great fossil!

The museum also has a big butterfly house. There were some amazing ones I had never seen before, very different than the Monarchs we generally see.

In the kid zone, Sam made some fossil rubbings to take home…

…and explored what things look like under a microscope. Daddy’s fingerprint was funny! Sam also liked feeling all the animal pelts and skins. The alligator was her favorite.

After seeing all the exhibits, one last stop at the mechanical dinosaur that Sam liked. She was a little unsure if he was real or not. We assured her, he is not. Roar!
