Daddy Date at Ridley Creek State Park

| April 12, 2015

I really needed some time to myself, just to get things done and – egad! – relax! Mark took Sam to Ridley Creek State Park, which we all love. Sam’s favorite part is actually going down by the creek. She looks for fish and other wildlife and collects seashells (yeah, we’re not sure where the seashells came from, but most likely they were just in the sand that was probably trucked in).

Apparently, on this trip, making mudpies was in order. Oh, yeah, you can tell I wasn’t there. Mudpies. Just the thought gives me heart palpitations. Oh well. That is what dads are for.

They hung out for a while by the water…

And saw a goose!

Mark said Sam was as good as could be, she kept her hat on the whole time, and explored nature with him.

One last photo before going home – a selfie! Love these two together. She’s always going to be Daddy’s little girl.

Samcakes

| April 9, 2015

Sam loves her daddy’s pancakes! I don’t blame her, they are way better than any pancakes I have ever had in any restaurant. She did like however, when I once took her to an IHOP and she got a Mickey Mouse pancake. She has been bugging Mark about making her one for a while. He did make her a Mickey once or twice, but they decided to branch out recently and today he made her name, among other shapes. Sam was so excited! I don’t think I ever saw her eat so many. Here’s the chef (and his happy customer) and some of his creations.

Like Poppy, Like Granddaugher?

Sam got a pack of stick on mustaches and she kept walking around wearing them. First she had to look like Daddy, then Poppy. Here’s our silly girl. She crazy…

Joe and Sam

My family

| April 6, 2015

On Easter night, we decided to take some pictures of Mark and Sam. It’s been a while since we had any of them together. We had to include our little cat, Zephyr, as well. She is part of the family!

I like this picture a lot. Sam was cold, so she had a blanket wrapped around her. She looks like Little Red Riding Hood or something, my wood nymph.

Zephyr is such an important part of our family. She is getting old, but she still is the same little kitten we adopted all those years ago to me. Sam loves her so much, but Mark will always be number one in Zephyr’s heart.

We tried taking these pictures with Sam holding Zephyr, but Sam hadn’t quite mastered holding Zephyr without blocking her own face, so we settled on this pose.

Zephyr’s feet got tired of dangling, so she thought Sam’s head would be a good cushion. 🙂

Our silly girl. Such a ham. When she is in the mood to be photographed, look out!

The Easter Bunny Never Disappoints

| April 6, 2015

Once again, the Easter Bunny came to our house and he never disappoints Sam with her basket. As always, that sneaky little rabbit hid Sam’s basket. Sam searched high and low first in our bedroom closet then in her room.

She checked every room upstairs, even the bathroom, since the bunny did leave her basket in the tub once! Eventually, she made it downstairs and looked in some typical places before reaching the kitchen. We could not believe the MESS that bunny made when he came into our house! Grass and leaves everywhere, and he even dropped his carrot!

Sam did find her basket on her booster seat (which Mark took out of his car while he was hauling some dirt and other gardening stuff) tucked behind her coat. She quickly threw her coat on the floor for better basket access!

On to the opening! Sam got so much great candy. Candy buttons, Hershey Kisses, her favorite Jelly Belly peach jelly beans, and of course, lots of chocolate bunnies.

The Easter Bunny always leaves lots of good toys too. He somehow found the Shopkins that Sam and I could not, a cute Hello Kitty cheerleader she had her eye on, a tiny stuffed bunny, a bunny puppet, some pencils with bunny pencil toppers, and the coolest butterflies — that actually fly! — when you wind them up.

There were other assorted goodies as well. As I said, the Easter Bunny never disappoints!

One of the coolest toys Sam got was a Catwoman figurine! How the Easter Bunny knows Sam likes Batman, and Catwoman in particular, we have no idea.

One of the sweetest parts of the day was when Sam remembered something I casually said the night before. Sam wondered what would be in my Easter basket. I told her that I don’t get a basket, that I hadn’t gotten one since I was a kid. She was so aghast! She couldn’t believe I got no basket. So, she made one for me herself. 🙂 My thoughtful girl. She is always worried about everyone else. Later, when she and Mark took a walk, they stopped in CVS and picked out a lot of good snacks I like and Sam filled her basket with things for me. This is the original basket she made, complete with homemade “eggs”.

It was a quiet Easter, but a nice one, spent hanging out at home with our girl, eating candy, watching Hop. What could be better than that?
