Just Put Your Lips Together and Blow

| May 22, 2015

Sam has been working so hard at learning how to whistle. It bugs her to no end that she can’t do it. Well, this morning, I woke up to the sound of Sam whistling in our bed! Way to go, Sam! All that hard work paid off. She was so thrilled. She also finally mastered snapping her fingers, another skill she couldn’t wait to do. The little things that make them happy…

Broccoli

| May 22, 2015

Sam’s first broccoli was finally ready to pick! This year’s crop came out so much better since I planted it early the way you are supposed to.

Look at that gorgeous head of broccoli!

Another crown for good measure, to make sure we had enough for dinner!

Sam wanted to start munching right away!

P.S….it was yummy!

Last Day of Preschool

| May 20, 2015

Sam may have had graduation a few days ago, but today is her official last day of preschool. After graduation day, they had a “fun day” (where the whole day was full of games and fun) and then her pizza party today.  I can’t believe it was her last day. As we went to school, it was very bittersweet. I am happy she is moving on, but sad too, that our routine of going to St. Matthew’s is over. You get quickly used to the other mom’s, the kids, the routine. Sam will miss her friends a lot. It was so hard for her this year having only one kid (a boy!) in her class who she knew from last year. She did make new friends, of course, but now she is worried again about who will be in kindergarten with her. Her best friend this year, Ava, doesn’t live in Springfield and is going to a different Kindergarten so that makes Sam sad. Last year, her best friend, Julia, went on to Kindergarten so there was that too. Every year she has to make a new “best friend” which is hard for her. She has gotten so much better at talking to kids and opening up though, that I have no doubt she will be just fine.

Her school pictures from this year finally showed up and here it is! So different from last year. She looks so grown up!

Here is her class picture. Hopefully, she will see lots of her friends her Kindergarten class next year. With so many classes though (12 a.m. and 12 p.m., I think), you just never know.

Graduation Day

| May 18, 2015

Today was Sam’s preschool graduation. I can’t believe it came so fast. I swear, in those last few weeks, it seemed like we just had Christmas vacation, and now she is done. I can’t believe there is going to be no more St. Matt’s! It was so great for our family being right around the corner. We loved being able to walk to and from school and just the closeness to home in case of emergency (and we had a few of those – but only a few, thankfully). Sam loved it there, which is the most important thing. But, we all have to move on, and it is Sam’s time to graduate, this time for real. Last year’s graduation ceremony made me proud of her for all she had accomplished in her first year at school, but this year, she truly graduates and moves on.

We all assembled in the church, anxiously awaiting her arrival down the aisle and then, there she was!

My little graduate. 🙂

She walked proudly down the aisle, feeling very sure of herself. She knew it was a big day.

All the kids sang us a bunch of songs before the actual graduation ceremony.

Then, it was quickly time for diplomas. When Mrs. Maylie called her name, I couldn’t have felt happier for her. I cheered as loud as I could!

After the ceremony, we all went outside for some pictures.

Sam was so happy everyone came. It means a lot to her that we recognize her events, and we always try to show her how important we all think they are.

Flowers for the pretty graduate! Orange, with glitter. Could they be more perfect?

We couldn’t leave without getting a picture of Sam with her best buddy, Ava.

Sam, we are all so proud of you. I still remember your first day at St. Matt’s, you were so scared. So afraid of being away from home, of making friends, and of knowing what to do. You sailed through your two years with flying colors! You learned so much, made friends, and got so independent, that many days, you were so busy talking to your friends at drop off, that when it came time to ascend the stairs to your classroom, you didn’t even look back for a goodbye. We are all so happy for you, and loved watching you grow from such a little preschooler to such a big girl. Mommy will miss these days. You are off to Kindergarten, and that will go so quickly, then you will be in school all day, full time. What will I do without our days together? We love you, Samantha, our little Kindergarten girl.

Can I get an oil change with that?

One of Mark’s birthday gifts from Krista was a new exhaust tip for his car. Yeah, don’t ask me what it is for, I have no idea, but he wanted it so ok. Well, he decided to put in on and asked Sam to help. She LOVES fixing things with him and he loves teaching her. Mark and Mechanic Sam got to work!

DSC02007-2

She was so excited that Mark was going to let her help, and more importantly, let her go under the car!

DSC02008

Screw, screw, screw, turn, turn, turn, fix, fix, fix. Sam was hard at work!

DSC02010

I love the pose here, with the crossed leg. She’s quite a pro!

DSC02013

All in all, it was a job well done. Mark and Sam got the new exhaust tip put on and it looks great.

This picture has nothing to do with fixing cars, but I just wanted to post it. Sam is always saying how things don’t scare her (not true) and that she is brave (sometimes). I spied her after the car repair hiding under the tv tray table watching the part in Aladdin that always scares her — the part where Jafar is a snake and there is lots of fire. Cracks me up. Yeah, she’s not scared! Oh boy, I wanted to watch Wizard of Oz with her, but boy, those flying monkeys! Maybe next year…
