She is getting too smart for me…

Yesterday, I was puttering around doing something in the kitchen and Sam asked me if she could watch Odd Squad, one of her favorite shows. The TV was on, but just to some random channel. I was probably watching something and left it on. Anyway, I told Sam she had to wait a minute because I was in the middle of something. The next thing I hear, in a tone I cannot possibly convey in type, is Sam saying, “Well, ok, then…I guess I’ll just watch this show that’s on….I don’t really think it’s meant for me, but….” It was so funny I had to go in. It was American Dad, definitely not something for her. I wound up putting on her show and she was happy. Yeah, she won. But honestly, it was just the way she said it that got me. It was so funny and so adult in tone. She cracks me up. Kids learn the nuances of language so quickly. We think they don’t, but they do. She is learning what sarcasm is, and finally getting what is funny when you tell a joke, and what isn’t. Little ears do hear, and not just the words you say, but the way you say them. Scary!
