Trying no Training Wheels

| June 6, 2015

Sam wanted to try riding her bike without training wheels. We weren’t sure if she was ready, but, who are we to stop her, so off the wheels came. I think she wanted to try more because one of the boys in her class (Torin) told them he doesn’t use training wheels and she was a bit jealous. It turned out that she wasn’t as ready as she thought she was, but at least she tried. No success, but there’s always the next time. Mark and I were both really proud of her for trying. We definitely learned something – it’s backbreaking work trying to teach a kid to ride a two wheeler!

Baby birds

| June 1, 2015

Our next door neighbors, Joe and Debbie, have some potted flowers hanging off of their front porch. Joe told us that a bird had built a nest in one and that it was full of eggs. They went down the shore over Memorial Day and asked me to water the plants. I went to water the hanging pots and as soon as I stepped onto the porch, mama bird came flying out (as Joe said she always does). I got up on a chair to see where the nest was so that I didn’t pour water from the watering can directly on the eggs and I just had to grab my camera to take a picture. I then grabbed Sam and lifted her up to see. She was thrilled to think that baby birds were there, waiting to be hatched.

About a week later, voila! I tried to get a good picture, but, alas, it’s not the best. We tried to hurry so mama bird wouldn’t get too freaked out, and the camera didn’t want to focus, but still. Here they are! Sam thought it was interesting that their had been three blue eggs and three brown eggs, but all the babies looked the same.
