Sleep Sleep Sleep, Why is it so complicated?

| August 14, 2015

As you all know, Sam has the WORST sleep habits. I have to stay with her until she falls asleep, she is always in our bed at some point during the night. Ugh. For the last week I have been trying to not stay with her for the falling asleep part. I promised her I’d come back and check on her, and I did, after about 5 minutes the first night (she was awake), 10 minutes the second night (she was almost asleep) and 10 minutes the third night (she was sleeping)! It has been one week of her going to sleep on her own, and she didn’t even give me a hard time about it, surprisingly. Let’s see if it lasts…

Update – yeah, as expected, it didn’t last. She slept in a sleeping bag down the shore with Krista and Adam, but being away from our home routine kind of ruined the whole thing. She is back to asking me to stay. Sigh. 09/10/2015

Nothing like waiting until the last minute…

Arghhh! We just got a letter from kindergarten that we won’t find out what Sam’s placement will be, a.m. or p.m., who her teacher is, or even when her first day is, until the end of August! We knew we wouldn’t find out a.m or p.m. for a while, but they aren’t mailing the packets until August 27! That’s insane. We are so lucky we have my parents to watch Sam, but other people are not so lucky. How you are to arrange child care a week before school starts, I have no idea. The kids are having a modified first day, the parents stay and her whole class won’t even be there. I have a feeling it will be only an hour or two, a get acquainted with her teacher and her classroom kind of thing. That will be either Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day. One of those days she will be off. Then her first real day, with her whole class, the whole routine, will be Thursday. I am not trying to rush the summer away, but honestly, I am ready to get the ball rolling on kindergarten!

Sam getting adventurous

| August 3, 2015

Sam’s swim lessons are long over, but we have really been trying to get her to keep up what she learned at the pool. The biggest obstacles in my view are (1) her fear of getting her face wet, and (2) the fact that she keeps stopping her arm and leg movements when we have her practice without her swim ring.

I don’t think she likes getting her face wet because she gets water in her eyes and nose. I bought her goggles, but her nose still fills up and she hates that. I noticed a lot of kids at the pool had a different sort of mask, one that covers the nose, so I bought her one. What a difference it makes! Sam is more than willing to put her face in the water now. Going underwater may be another story, but still. I’ll take what I can get.

She also just started actually running into the water features in the baby pool. She never would before for the same reason — her face gets wet. Now she loves it! Go, Sam!
