It’s Christmas Tree Time!

We weren’t in a huge rush to decorate the tree, but, it’s standing there looking so empty and forlorn that we had to do it! We waiting until after dinner so Sam was all ready in her reindeer pjs. She helped me string the lights, which is usually Mark and my job, and then she wanted to do the “garlic” all by herself. 🙂 She did a good job. Mark had to help her at the top, but she made it look really nice.
I wanted to only put out completely non-breakable ornaments this year because, well, the cat situation. I was very clear to Sam that there were A LOT of ornaments that were not going on the tree. I thought she’d be a pain in the butt, frankly, about wanting to put up everything, but she completely understood. There were a bunch of ornaments she would look at for a minute then say, “Nope, the cats will break that!” I was actually pretty proud of how grown-up she was being. Sam likes finding the ornaments she made, like this wooden gingerbread bird house.
The cats were very interested in the goings on. I think they are a bit confused about why there is a tree in the house.
Penelope isn’t quite sure what to make of Frosty…
…or Rudolph, especially since they both sing!
Oh yes, the fun begins again. I thought Penelope had learned that tree climbing is not a desired activity on the part of her humans, but no.
We managed to decorate the tree, cat free, eventually, placing all ornaments that would look tasty to the cats up a bit higher. Although, why we bothered I have no idea, since they will just climb up to get whatever they want.
In contrast to Penelope’s climbing, Zach sat patiently on the stairs just observing. I think he’s gotten it out of his system. It’s funny how he is only a week older than Penelope. He seems much more grown up!
At last, the star! Sam made one for our tree this year (and Grandmom’s tree too).
A job well done! But Santa’s helpers look exhausted!
Penelope decided maybe under the tree would be a better bet, especially if she doesn’t want to get into trouble again!
Ta da! All done. Sam gave her tree a hug and decided that Santa was going to love it. 🙂
