Happy New Year!

| December 31, 2015

This year, New Year’s Eve was pretty typical in our house. No one planned to stay up until midnight (although, Sam keeps insisting she wants to) and no special plans. Just the family, hanging out at home. Sam was asleep by 8:00, as usual, and Mark and I made it to about 10:30, I think. We are such party animals. 🙂

One thing Samantha and I did do before bed was try on our matching pajamas. It wasn’t intentional, the matching, at least not at first. I had bought Sam the polar bear pjs a few weeks before Christmas and then a few weeks later while shopping in a completely different store, Sam found almost perfectly matching Mommy-sized ones. She was so excited. She insisted I buy them, which, of course, I did! Here we are, the polar bear family!

It was a busy year, 2015. I feel like so much happened and it all flew by so quickly. But it was a good one. I tried really hard to remember as I said goodbye to 2015 that I am so lucky. Everything may not be exactly as I want it to be with life, it never is, is it? But our life is pretty great. There were too many years where Mark and I said Happy New Year and it wasn’t really that happy because we wanted a little person to share the new year with. We have what we wanted now. Our little girl. And she does make January 1, every year, something to be happy about. Happy New Year!

Old School Fun

| December 27, 2015

The days after Christmas are always nice. The hustle bustle of getting everything perfect and ready for the holiday is over and we can just relax and enjoy our time off. Most of that time is spent opening all of Sam’s presents (could they make the packaging any more complicated…) and trying to figure out where everything is going to go in the house. But, we do manage to have fun. This year, Sam got some really cool, old school type toys for us to play with. One was Rock ’em Sock ’em Roberts. I loved that game when I was a kid and Mark and I knew that Sam would too. What’s not to love about popping a robot’s head off?

DSC03725

One of the other cool things Sam got were some RC cars. Mark and Sam had so much fun racing them around the track. The track itself glows in the dark and when the cars go around they sort of leave this light trail behind them. The cats were going bonkers! Penelope in particular kept meowing at the cars going by.

DSC03726

DSC03729

Zach took the more direct approach. When he got tired of not being able to catch the cars, he just plopped himself right on top of the track. That’s that!

Christmas Day Part 2!

| December 26, 2015

First stop, the Ricciotti house! Sam loves seeing her Grandmom and Poppy and getting to open all the gifts that have been waiting for her. Grandmom always leaves the wrapped gifts in the computer room and Sam knows exactly which wrapping paper is on her gifts. She just about bursts waiting for Christmas Day!

One of the first gifts to be opened was one of the many Sam made for her Daddy. She took a ton of pictures with her camera on Christmas which we just loved. She is going to be quite the photographer, just like her Dad.

DSC03638

This is one of Sam’s photos!

DSCN0045

Sam also made Daddy a kiss box. She made me one a while ago. It is something she read about in one of her books. She figured since Daddy travels all the time, he needs a kiss box to go with him, just in case he is in need of one of her kisses.

DSC03641

I love the look of glee on her little face. That’s what Christmas is all about, isn’t it?

DSC03646

Sam painted a special Christmas ball for Grandmom…

DSC03652

…and Grandmom gave Sam a special necklace. Sam’s necklace is a portion of Grandmom’s necklace, which is shaped like a heart, and has the hole where Sam’s piece fits in. The necklace has a message that a little girl stole a piece of Grandmom’s heart. Sam loves it, of course.

It’s picture time for Bella!

DSC03664

Sam is giving gifts again. This time, a snowman ornament for Poppy that says, “I love you.”

DSC03649

And Poppy’s special gift, a Shutterfly book full of pictures of Samantha and Poppy, just like we made for Grandmom a few years ago. Needless to say, Poppy loved it. He does love that little girl.

DSC03661

After all the gifts were opened, it was off to see Pop Pop and the rest of the family. We’re ready to open presents!

DSC03666

One of Sam’s favorite gifts from Pop Pop was this little pet carrier she can use when she plays veterinarian.

DSC03670

Poor Ryder was so tired and overwhelmed by the day, but he tried to hang in there!

DSC03672

RC cars! Boy, Sam and her Daddy are going to have a blast with those!

DSC03677

Samantha really loved seeing her cousins, especially Trinity. She likes having another little girl around, and I think she likes that she is older than Trinity and can thus, somewhat boss her around! Sam likes little kids. She’d be a good big sister.

Pop Pop made us this really nice cutting board. Can’t wait to use it!

DSC03702

And he also made this rocking horse for Ryder. Mark helped a bit and Sam was at Pop Pop’s house quite a few times while it was in progress. She couldn’t wait to see how it turned out!

DSC03708

And ride it, of course! All the kids were riding it over and over again.

DSC03715

That night, it was back home for dinner with Grandmom and Poppy. It was a long day, but a good one. Christmas is a pretty magical time, but it goes by so quickly. It’s hard to believe another Christmas has come and gone. But we are lucky, we have family to spend it with, and are fortunate in that we can buy each other nice things and have enough vacation time to be able to spend time doing everything we want to do with the people we love. Merry Christmas!

It’s Christmas Day!

| December 26, 2015

Christmas Day started early in our house this year. VERY early. I think Sam’s eyes popped open before 6:00 and she was begging us to get up. It was all we could do to keep her upstairs while we went to the bathroom! I do understand, she is a kid, and well, it’s Christmas, but honestly, this was the earliest she ever got up. We did manage to keep her upstairs until Mark went down and took care of the cats, turned the tree lights on, and got his camera ready. It helped that Santa left a few small things under Sam’s tree in her room, as he usually does. All the little stuffed puppies and  the stuffed kitten she wanted were there waiting for her. Sam brought them all down with her to take part in the excitement.

Presents!

DSC_3581

Samantha dove right in and first thing found her camera! It is red, because, well, what other color would Santa pick?

DSC_3589

We couldn’t believe it! Santa must have been testing out the camera before he left to make sure it works and he forgot to delete all his test shots!

DSC_3598-2

Here are some of Santa’s pictures. We told Sam, she is the luckiest kid ever to have pictures of Santa delivering the presents, and also, the reindeer! Sam showed EVERYONE her photos. She was beyond excited.

DSCN0005

Santa must have really liked the snowman Sam made.

DSCN0006

I wonder which reindeer this was? Hmmm…

DSCN0007

Rudolph!

DSCN0008

Santa seemed to have liked the snacks. The whole plate was empty in the morning.

DSCN0009

Penelope looks a bit befuddled. No sign of Zach. I am sure he went running when the man in the red suit showed up.

DSCN0012

Sam couldn’t wait to show off her real, grown up camera to her Daddy.

It was finally time for the rest of the family to open gifts and Sam couldn’t wait to give Daddy her present. She bought him a pair of glass swans with a heart.

We had a great morning. Sam got everything on her list from Santa.

I loved my very special gift that Sam made me (with Daddy’s help). She saw a similar thing in Michael’s and insisted to Grandmom and Daddy that it was what she wanted to make for me. I heard about it (in cryptic detail) for months. It is beautiful and I will treasure it forever. Sam picked out everything inside the ball and helped her Daddy glue it all in.

Sam and all the pups!

DSC_3676

Samantha made us all special cards to go with all of our gifts. She really loves making things for people and giving gifts. It is one of the things I love most about her. She has such a big heart.

DSC_3678-2

Zach and Penelope were a bit confused with the goings on, but they did like all the wrapping paper. Eventually, we gave them their gifts and they had a blast playing with their new toys.

DSC_3613-2

A few days before Christmas, Sam and Mark made this cardboard castle for the kitties to play in. Sam loved decorating it and making it look like a real castle with turrets and a drawbridge.

Ok, that’s about all the merriment a little kitten can take. It’s a good thing we are off to Grandmom and Poppy’s and then to Pop Pop’s house. These kitties need a nap!

Merry Christmas!

| December 25, 2015

Merry Christmas from The Myers Family! Here are some of our annual family portraits and our Christmas card photo. We are so lucky to have our wonderful little family. Not only at Christmas, but every day of the year. Life may be hectic and loud all the time, but it is wonderful. I hope everyone’s Christmases are as beautiful as ours.
