I guess Mark was taking too long proposing, because Sam decided she was going to marry Penelope. She spent quite a long time getting dressed, assembling the guests, decorating, and making sure it was just perfect. I had bought her this dress so that she could be a bride. The hairpiece was her Mom Mom’s. I think she wore it to Mark’s sister’s wedding.
Penelope needed a little “encouragement” to walk down the aisle.
The happy couple’s first dance!
Wedding cake, of course!
Mark, the official house photographer, took some portraits of the bride. She looks so gorgeous and so grown up, it pains my heart a little. I can’t believe that some day (a day that will arrive before I want it to) she will be dressed in her wedding gown for real.
Samantha has told me that she is going to marry Zach next. Run, kitten, run!

I have always wanted to know how to make fancy cakes using pretty frosting techniques and whatnot. Years ago, I asked Mark to buy me a bunch of Wilton frosting tips and tools and I never did learn anything. Recently, I enrolled in a four week class to learn how to make flowers and things and I had some practice to do at home. Sam was more than ready to help out! Not only is she thrilled that I took the course (because the only part of the cake she cares about is the frosting) but she got to play around too. Here she is making some flowers out of frosting. She didn’t do half bad!
I brought the cake home after class last night fully decorated with the flowers I had made at home, and some in the class. Sam wanted to pose with the cake and she made sure to point out a few of the flowers she made. When she made them, she asked me, very sheepishly, if I was going to use them on the cake. When I told her that of course I would, she was very proud. I made sure to tell her that everyone in my class, teacher included, thought she did a great job.
Sam has requested a multitude of flowers on her next birthday cake. Let’s hope I don’t forget my technique!

Mark took Sam outside to play last night and she got out her sidewalk chalk. Once she gets going, she can mark up the whole driveway in no time. This time, among other things, Mark and Sam traced their shadows. I think it’s pretty cute.
She also wrote this out. She has been writing it a lot, and I have no idea why, but you can’t argue — it’s true!

Kindergarten makes a big deal out of the 100th day of school. There are whole books about it. I have no idea why, but there you go. At Sam’s school, she had a 100 day of school project to create. She was told to put things on a no more than half sheet of posterboard sized paper in groups of 2, 5, 10, or 25 to represent 100 days of school. All of the projects were going to be displayed and the kids were going to be taken around the school to see them.
When I told Sam about the project, she had a very definite idea in mind – no help from mom here! Here she is all ready for school, and her project. She did a great job. I was really proud of her!

It snowed yet again. Not a ton, but enough for Sam to play in, which is all that matters. Mark was working, so I took Sam out for a bit to play. What she wanted to do more than anything is play on her swing in the snow. Why not? The kid loves her swing and it is just as much fun in the snow.
She tried to catch snowflakes…
Showed me how brave she is by not holding on…
And just had a great time. Boy, I hate snow, but I love how happy it makes my girl.
