The New Girl

| March 31, 2016

Sam’s class has a new student. It is very late in the year and I think it must be very hard for a kid at that age – well, at any age – to start in a new school this far along. Samantha said her name is Giovanna. She wanted to make something for her to make her feel welcome so she wrote this note. I think it is very sweet. Sam is always a nice little girl and I am so thankful for that.

Better late than never, I suppose

Somehow, egg dyeing just totally slipped through the cracks this year. I even bought the eggs! So, when the day after Easter Sam mentioned it and asked if we could dye eggs, how could I say no?

Mark and Sam got to dyeing and did a good job (they could have been better if Samantha had any patience whatsoever to let the eggs sit in the food coloring for more than 10 seconds!)

She was happy with the result though and that is all that matters. Now if I could just get her to eat one…

The cats had no idea what the heck we were doing, but they do like to investigate. They gave Sam their sniff of approval!

Easter Morning

| March 28, 2016

Easter morning started very early this year. Like, before 7:00 a.m. Sam just couldn’t wait any longer to go look for her basket. You can see the sun is not quite up out the window. Sam looked in all the usual places upstairs then headed downstairs to search. Penelope noticed some Easter basket grass sticking out of one of the cabinets and Sam saw her looking, so that gave it away.

That crafty bunny! He is always finding new spots.

Penelope was looking to see if the bunny was still there, I think!

Some Easter hugs for the kittens. I can’t believe they rated a hug before basket unloading! Lucky kitties!

Sam made a basket of cat toys for Zach and Penelope. She was happy to see Zach investigating.

The bunny did well this year. Lots of things, including these tiny little Disney princess babies that Sam just loved!

And of course, oodles of candy and other goodies.

When everything had been examined, Penelope got a ride (she was not thrilled…..)

Once Mark woke up from his pre-sunrise stupor, he offered to make pancakes for Sam. She loves to help.

Bunny pancakes!

Later that day, my mom came over so we could have dinner. Sam kept asking me, “When are Grandmom and Invisible Poppy coming over?” She cracks me up. I said, “Invisible Poppy?” and she said, “Yes, just because he is in heaven doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be here on Easter!” I hope she is right.

We are so lucky to have this little girl. Her Poppy always did like seeing her in her Easter finest.

We were taking nice family portraits until somebody decided to be silly. 😉

Time for a swing. Gotta take those nice days when you get them!

Happy Easter!

Here’s our beautiful girl in her Easter dress that she picked all by herself. That thing cost a fortune, but she wanted it so much and seeing her little smiling face in it makes it worth the price. 🙂

Guardian Angels

| March 26, 2016

I was putting Sam to bed last night and we got to talking, like we always do. She has been doing ok at best since her Poppy died. Not great, but she is hanging in there. She has been wearing a ring of his on a chain around her neck for a while and she has been a bit off, behavior-wise. Anyway, she asked me if everyone in heaven is an angel. I told her, no, I don’t think so, only certain people like those that have special jobs to do or people to protect. She came to the conclusion that Poppy is her guardian angel. I definitely think he is. I believe he is going to always watch over her and I think it makes her feel better to think he is too. I hope so. I’ll take all the help I can get protecting my little girl.
