Zach’s is One!

| May 31, 2016

As a birthday treat, Mark and Sam took Zach outside. He loves the outside as much as Zephyr did. This is one happy boy. Happy Birthday, Dude!

Poor Penny. She is so sick, I don’t think she will enjoy her birthday this weekend. We love you, Penny!

Happy 1st Birthday, Zach and Penelope!

| May 30, 2016

Zach’s first birthday is tomorrow and Penelope’s isn’t until the weekend, but we decided to celebrate a bit early. Penny hasn’t been feeling well and we thought the kitties would enjoy their present early. Zach had a cold recently, one of those respiratory things cats get where they sneeze endlessly, but he seemed to bounce back very easily. He slept a lot, but otherwise was fine (other than the sneezing). Penny on the other hand was sneezing but not eating and rather sad and pooky. Their gift was a cat bed which we thought they would love. We figured maybe Penny would enjoy having a warm place to curl up with her big brother. I think she does. 🙂

We did get them other gifts, like cat toys (Sam insisted), but I think the bed is a hit. We enjoyed having a celebration for them, but it wasn’t quite the same as when we celebrated Zephyr’s birthday. Every single year of that cat’s life we had cake (angel food) and sang to her. She was a very special girl and we are going to miss her this year as much as ever. But it’s time for new celebrations, with new cats, and new memories. Happy Birthday, Zach and Penelope!

Thank you, Pop Pop!

Mark’s dad is always doing woodworking at he had asked us recently if Sam would like a corn hole game. We absolutely thought she would so he made a pair for us. He left the painting to us so that we could make something Sam would like. When Mark showed Sam a bunch of photos of corn hole games on the Internet for ideas, of course, she couldn’t pick stripes, or a star, or some easy pattern. Nope. Very Hungry Caterpillar. Couldn’t be more complicated. But we really wanted her to have what she wanted so off Mark and Sam went to the Home Depot to find colors. They came home with perfectly matched colors and we created templates for the circles and drew the caterpillar. After Mark and Sam painted the boards, I painted the caterpillar on them. I must say, they turned out great! We are going to have a great time throwing bean bags this summer!

Creepy Carrots

| May 29, 2016

One of Sam’s latest food obsessions is raw carrots. I had absolutely no objection to that because, hey, who is going to object when a kid wants a vegetable for a snack? I think it’s cute actually, since I loved raw carrots when I was a kid. She asked me for one and when I looked in the bag I found this rather odd specimen. Sam couldn’t wait to eat it! I guess I should be glad she wanted to eat it and not keep it forever like she does with most of the other odd things she finds. Sam has an adorable book called, “Creepy Carrots” and this one should be in it, I swear. Weird, creepy or just downright odd, she ate just about every bite!

Field Day

| May 26, 2016

Samantha’s field day was today at school and man, it could not have been hotter! It was so sunny and hot (no, I should not be complaining after all the recent photos of us in coats and even hats), but it was not a day for everyone to be standing around on the field in the sun. Oh well. It didn’t bother Sam. She was just thrilled to be running around playing games with her friends. The kids all had special shirts to wear and here is our little girl ready to go!

All of the kindergarten kids had field day at the same time and they were grouped in teams with their classmates who share a teacher, whether they are in the a.m. or the p.m. class. She met a lot of new friends on the green team who have Miss Cipolloni in the morning. Thankfully now, she has no problem talking to kids she doesn’t know.

They did all kinds of games, this one being where each team had to fill buckets with water, one cup at a time, one teammate at a time, until they saw who won. “Winning” wasn’t really the point though. They didn’t get prizes or whatnot, it was just fun to compete.

Sam’s favorite game was the potato sack race. I knew she’d be a real pro since she practices at home with pillowcases. So many kids fell over but not our girl! She just kept on hopping!

The hula hoop game threw her a bit since they had to sort of walk while looping it over their heads and under their feet. Once she got the rhythm though, she was fine and it turned out she liked doing that game a lot.

It was such a hot day, but the kids just kept on smiling. They were having the best time.

Here is Miss Cipolloni’s whole crew, morning and afternoon.

The last event of the day was the cup stacking. It was a tough one since the cups kept falling over, but Sam persevered and got them up!

It was a fun day, and a good way for the kids to start wrapping up their year. I love attending all her little school events. I try to get into the school as much as I can, but it’s hard. There are only so many opportunities and before you know it, she will be all grown up. I can’t even stand to think about it!
