Am I that predictable?

| June 24, 2016

Sam really wanted to swing on her swing tonight, but she had a long day. Last night she had a sleepover at Grandmom’s house and I was told she woke up very early. I told her that I was (a) in my pajamas and (b) it was waaaaaayy past her bedtime and we would swing in the morning. She protested loudly by saying, “but in the morning, you will still have your pajamas on, and you will need coffee, and you will want to watch the news….” Well. Um. Yeah. Am I really that predictable? Pretty much. That’s my morning routine when I am off from work. Take it or leave it. Them’s the breaks, kid, them’s the breaks. But I guess we’ll be swinging early tomorrow!

All she needs now is a flying carpet

My mom bought Sam some new rhinestone stickers and it didn’t take Sam long to get creative. Love it. She said she wants to be like Jasmine! She kept trying to talk me into fashioning her a Jasmine-like outfit and as clever as I can be, that one was not happening.

Poor Penny! I guess she has to be a princess too!

Movie Night

| June 23, 2016

Our township hosted outdoor movie night again! This was the first one of the year and it was Finding Nemo. I have been wanting Sam to see that movie since the sequel, Finding Dory, is coming out this summer. Alas, Sam has already seen it. Sam rather sheepishly informed me that one day they watched it at school. She was afraid I’d be mad since it was supposed to be a family thing, but I assured her it was no big deal at all! That I am glad she liked it and that we can watch it again together. My mom came with us this time and it was a perfect night for it.  Here they are, all ready for the movie to start — as soon as it got dark, that is.

We got there early to make sure we got a good spot and of course, Sam got bored, so she went running around the sledding hill with the other kids. She quickly made a new friend, Claire, who she discovered just finished kindergarten at the SLC! Sam hopes they are in the same first grade, but the odds are pretty low. You never know though. What a great surprise that would be for Sam. Mark mostly stayed with them while they played while I sat with my mom, but he said they were so perfectly matched. They both sort of spoke the same and acted the same. Who knows, maybe they will be long time friends!

When the movie was about to start, Sam asked if she could sit with Claire on her blanket. I couldn’t believe it! My little girl, who usually spends half of movie night in my lap instead of her own chair, didn’t even want to sit with us! I checked with Claire’s mom and she said it was fine, so who were we to say no. Off Sam went. She is growing up so fast. I thought I had a few more years before she would start abandoning me for her friends. It’s kind of sad, but it also makes me feel good about her independence. She should start being a little less clingy and I guess she is.

About halfway through the movie, Sam decided to come back, and then she finished it out in my lap. It was a great movie and a great night!

Define “adventure”

| June 20, 2016

I had a million errands to run today and of course, brought Sam with me. With her not being in school, she will be running a lot of boring errands, unfortunately for her. On one of our many stops, she found an orange jelly bracelet on the ground and asked me if she could keep it. I said she could and she proudly carted it around, sometimes on her wrist, sometimes as a necklace on the stuffed toy she had with her. We went to Wal-mart, Joann Fabrics and Petsmart. I knew she had it with her in Joann Fabric because I distinctly saw it. While in Petsmart, our next stop, Sam noticed it was gone. She was unhappy, of course, and I was feeling somewhat benevolent because I agreed we’d retrace our steps to find it. We looked all over Petsmart and wound up going all the way back to Joann Fabric (in the same shopping center) and went up and down every aisle we visited (while I carried heavy bags). We didn’t find it and I told her that it was too bad but it was gone and some kid probably picked it up just like she did.

We got to the car and I went to put something in Sam’s bag from Joann Fabric. The bracelet was in there. I was going to scream! It was partly my fault, I mean, I should have had the sense to look there before running around like an idiot, but I didn’t. When I said something to Sam about how she should have checked, why did she not remember she put it there, etc. etc. etc. her response was, “Well, at least it was an adventure!”

That kid’s definition of adventure surely differs from mine…

More Go Pro fun!

| June 20, 2016

Sam and Mark had a lot more fun with the Go Pro today! Mark mounted it to her bike so we could capture her riding. This picture on her bike was too adorable not to share.

Sam held the Go Pro while swinging. Most of the pictures were somewhat upside down, but this one is pretty darn cute.
