It’s a Jungle Out There!

| March 30, 2017

Last night was the Jungle Jamboree at Sam’s school. It is the first grade event similar to the kindergarten pajama party she had last year. Almost all the kids wore animal print or animal clothing. Sam loves it mostly because she just loves any event at her school, but also because it is a nighttime activity and so she gets to stay up late! The kids move through the night from activity to activity depending on what class they are in, so Sam got to do things with her classmates, which is nice. The first activity was Bingo. She had fun sitting with her friends, Ella and Lydia, racing to get Bingo first.

Next stop was crafts. The kids made these little snakes from pipe cleaners and beads.

On to the photo booth (which wasn’t really a photo booth in that no actual pictures were given out!) The kids liked using the props and I think the photos will eventually be developed and displayed at school somewhere. It’s funny, I didn’t actually see one kid ask where their pics were. I think it was just about the fun for them.

The games were fun for the kids, but pretty easy. All in all though, they all had a blast. The room was so full of smiles.

Sam and a buddy. 🙂

Sam’s last activity was dance party and I was kind of glad. It was a great way for her to end the night. She loved dancing around with her friends, doing a conga line, and generally being a maniac. When it was over, she was so sad the night was done. She was having so much fun dancing with her friend, Teagan.  When we got home, it was hard to get her to bed because she was so worked up. School the next day was going to be interesting for the teachers, that’s for sure. Better them than me!

Oh, you are certainly an original!

| March 26, 2017

Sam was in the tub today and, as I usually do, I wash her hair then leave her to her own devices to play and just sit in the bubbly water while I do things upstairs. For once, she had no toys with her, only one wash cloth. I was in my room reading  a magazine and when I finally went back to the bathroom I noted that she now had three wash cloths in the tub with her. I asked her where they came from and she slyly told me she got out of tub and got them. I gave her a stern “Sam!” and she told me she dried off first. I kind of gave her a look and she said, “What? I’m playing dry cleaner. How can I do that with one cloth?” I responded with a somewhat skeptical, “Ok….” to which she responded, very matter of factly, “I am not like other girls!”

No, you certainly are not. And I’m very happy about that. 🙂

Tyler!

| March 25, 2017

We finally got a nice day and it was time for Tyler! We haven’t been there in a while so off we went. Sam needed some fresh air and so did we. We thought the treehouses weren’t open, but a hike was definitely on the agenda. It turned out, they were open! Sam was thrilled and wanted to do nothing but that, but we made her hike first.

On the way to the trail, we stopped at the chairs that Sam likes. She had to sit in all three but the big one is her favorite.

There were a number of fallen trees which, to me, are really cool to look at. When you see the gigantic root balls just sitting there on the ground, it is amazing. Sam decided she was going to be a tree herself.

This tree had a really odd branch that curled around. I said to Sam that it looked like it was saying, “Come here, I’ll give you a hug.” So we let the tree hug her!

Sam swears she saw some little bug here, but I couldn’t see it.

We tried to explain George of the Jungle to Sam, but it was lost on her. Kids…

Lots of stumps, and a good place for the whiny girl (“I’m tiiiiirrrred…..”) to rest.

Sam always goes to this treehouse that has all the books. We read a cute one together about dragons and their pet cats.

It was just about time to go and Mark got her to sit still for a few minutes to try to take some nice portraits in front of the little yellow flowers. It took a while, but she finally cooperated!

Sam said she was ready to go home, but then off she went! I swear, that kid is only tired when we are doing things she doesn’t want to do. Find something she enjoys, all the sudden she is a barrel of energy.

We did finally get her to go, but before we left, she stopped to say hi to a bunch of “snowmen” that Tyler created in the entrance. So cute and so creative! I would love to do that. How adorable would it look in front of a house for the winter?

As a reward for being good, we stopped for ice cream. Dairy Queen was open (and mobbed). Mark thought it was funny that Sam’s first trip to the ice cream shop of the season was surrounded by snow. Go figure. That’s Pennsylvania for you!

Bunny School

| March 19, 2017

Just the adults went out to dinner last night for Mark’s dad’s birthday so Sam spent the night at Grandmom’s house. I decided to goof around while she was gone and play with some of her toys. I set up “Bunny School” in her room and just left it there for her to find. It took her all day to go upstairs! Usually, she is up and down the steps but for hours she just stayed downstairs. Finally, she did go to her room and I heard her yell, “Mom….I think something is going on up here…..” I played dumb and came up then very nonchalantly said, “What? The bunnies are in school” and left her room. She thought it was pretty funny. After I walked out, she played with them for a while and then that night while I was putting her to bed, she thanked me for doing it. So it was worth it. She now has slyly asked if one day when she is at school the babies could go to preschool. Oh boy. What did I start!?

Sick Mommy

| March 18, 2017

Sam can be the sweetest kid in the universe. I mentioned how sick I was when we went to the Franklin Institute? Yeah, well, it only got worse. A lot worse. I finally went to the doctor and got some meds, but I missed a whole week of work and didn’t really do much the entire week. She came home from school at the end of the week with this. Samantha, I think you are pretty darn awesome, cute, great, amazing, nice, and spectacular too. I love and adore you as well, my sweet! What a wonderful get well present.
