Happy Birthday, Zach!

| May 31, 2017

We celebrated Zach’s second birthday today! Our boy is 2! It’s so hard to believe. Both he and Penny still act like kittens. Sam had to go to school and she was just about ready to explode waiting to give him his presents. She wrapped up a bunch of pom-poms for him, which I thought was very sweet. He loves to tear them apart. When he finds one, he quickly runs off with it in his mouth, and then tears it apart with his teeth like he would a mouse. Every time she is in her craft drawer, he comes looking because he knows that is where they are.

She specifically requested that her boy have a cake, so I obliged. I doubt Zach wants any (he doesn’t like one bit of table food), but Sam certainly enjoyed it on his behalf!

His big gift from the family was a giant 6 inch pom-pom I found at the craft store. He was in heaven! We let Sam give it to him, of course. Happy Birthday, Zach! You have made our life so much more fun, added so much love, and made our little girl so happy. You deserve the best of years!

Baby Penny

| May 30, 2017

Putting Sam to bed is still quite the experience. She never wants to go to bed, and when she finally gets there, I still have to stay until she falls asleep, then, it is doubtful she will spend the night in her bed. I had hoped that if one of the cats stayed with her, it would keep her in her bed but, alas, she never stays put. The cutest thing happened this night, however. Penny came in and climbed into her baby cradle and went right to sleep! Sam was the happiest kid ever. I managed to quietly call to Mark to bring up the camera to get a few photos. I am so glad that Penny decided to hang out. It made Sam’s whole night. Her whole week, maybe! How cute is this cat?

Spring Sing

| May 22, 2017

Today was Sam’s Spring Sing, one of the last times she will have an organized event at the SLC. I am glad that this is one of the last ones though, she loves to sing and she loves being with her friends. We tried so many times to get her to look at us so that we could get a photo but she kept chatting away with the little boy next to her, Michael. She told me, “He’s the nice one.” I know she thinks half the boys in her class are nuts!

She generally will sing, but gets a little shy about doing all the various hand motions. This time though, she really tried and did such a great job. I see her do them at home a lot and it was nice to see her confident enough to do them in front of an audience.

It was so obvious she was having the time of her life. She smiled the whole time!

We are so proud of our girl. After the concert, all the kids sat in the first few rows while a slideshow was shown with a bunch of photos from the year. The kids loved it. They were all bopping around in their seats like teenagers at a rock concert while the songs that overlaid the slideshow played, especially Pharrell Williams, Happy. It was one of the cutest things I have ever seen! Great job, Samantha!

More Biking Adventures – City Style!

| May 21, 2017

Today we went biking as a family into…wait for it…the City! Well, we didn’t exactly bike to the city, we drove there and then biked, but still. It’s a big change from our usual routes in our quiet suburban neighborhood. We went into Philadelphia to the Schuylkill River Trail, which we have been on before, but not the city portion. We essentially started at the Art Museum (which Sam now wants to visit) and rode around for a bit by the river. One of Sam’s favorite parts was these giant rocks. We stopped to hang out for a while so she could jump around like a maniac from rock to rock.

When we stopped once again (Sam wanted some water), she noticed my shoe was untied and she just had to tie it for me. She knows how to tie shoes now so she is happy to assist whenever possible. It took a while, but she finally got it.

It was a lot of fun and the weather was great. The views were not the usual for us country-bumpkins. 😉

Time out for a family selfie!

Or two…

Mark went off to see where a portion of the trail went and Sam and I had a minute to rest by the river. So pretty!

We eventually wound up at this sort of pop-up bar/restaurant where you could buy food from a food truck, get some drinks, and play some games. Sam LOVED it.

We waited a while to play the gigantic Jenga game. All the games were really popular, but Jenga was a favorite.

I cannot believe how high Sam and Mark’s tower got. It was insane. She couldn’t even reach the top to place her piece on after a while.

Oh no!

I love those photos. You have no idea how long I had to wait with my camera poised and ready to go. I knew it had to fall eventually, but MAN, it took FOREVER! Not long before we left, we went down to the water to look around. Sam was being a goofball with these cannon balls. Oh, they are so heavy!

It really was a gorgeous day, and a perfect opportunity to do something as a family. Now that Sam is riding her bike like a pro, hopefully we’ll do things like this more often.

Glide and Roll, Glide and Roll…

| May 20, 2017

Sam has been trying to learn to roller skate for a while. I had bought her these little strap-on skates second hand a long time ago, but she didn’t quite get the hang of it. She wanted to try again, so off we went. She isn’t exactly gliding along the way she is supposed to, but she’s able to move around on her own and not topple over! That’s a big improvement! This is the first time she really went off on her own without me standing right next to her so that she could grab on to me if she needed to. She was so proud of herself. We are proud of her too. It won’t be long before she realizes how steady she is and she gets more adventurous a starts pushing her feet off more. Then she’ll be ready to go! She still wants to try ice skating. So there’s that to look forward to. I have no idea how to ice skate!
